Hello all from Jakarta

Hello all...

i used to have polk sda crs complete with connecting cable between them.. use it for couple of years and then i sold it out... now i just get this speaker, it on the way to my home.. seems the model is monitor 5b ?
hope it can be as good as my old speaker... right now i just realize that its getting harder to get a good condition vintage speaker..
any advice for this speaker ? rebuilt the crossover ? or replace the tweeter ? i got it for 110bucks... seems for get the tweeter for this speaker gonna cost me more than the speaker itself...j5kc13a6iy0l.jpg

That is the Monitor 5 Series 2 with the SL2500 tweeter. If you desire to replace the tweeters you want the RD0(zero)198-1, but the SL2500 is decent. Of course, upgrading the crossover components is a good idea.

You shouldn't have any problem driving those speakers with the Sony integrated amp.

Best to remove a crossover and look at the components for the values, which will be printed on them.

This is the crossover. Unfortunately, the values are not visible.

  • The speaker arrive and it sound so good...the box condition also good, no crack or damage... polk must be using a hard/high quality wood not some cheapass MDF board...
so i decided to upgrade the crossover... anybody got the schematic especially for this Monitor 5b gen 2?

    thanks in advance...

The cabinets are MDF with either vinyl or veneer exterior.

There is no schematic for those, which is why I told you to remove one crossover to determine the component values.

Reporting that the speaker sound like ****... after i chat with the seller, the seller suggest me to do burn-in because the speaker haven't been play for maybe several years.. it is in the storage rooms and left there many years ago....barn find...
well.. there goes 40 hours of stop and go music before i start a serious listening...

Since I can't hear your speakers to know what might sound bad to you I will suggest it has nothing to do with them sitting around un-used. Rather, it is likely the electrolytic caps are way past their lifespan and need replacing.

    ^ Agree.

Burn in has nothing to do with age. Age has a lot to do with degradation.

Lots of people report breaking-in/burn-in can affect new gear, a rebuild or upgrade of parts as far as a change in sound over time.

Does the speaker sounding like crap mean you did do some crossover work?
