Screw this cold man 2025

Ok,
How cold does it need to be? It feels like we are in a deep freeze. Yeah 9 degrees outside kinda sucks. 18 at peak isn't any better. The next 10 days looks to suck as far as being anything comfortable. I think the warmest point of the next 10 days is like 40 degrees.

The older I get them more I'm OUT on the cold. I understand why people leave the northeast and move to Florida.

Do some research on ticks. They hang low in cold weather. We never had ticks up here in Maine till the last 20/25 years. It was the chemicals they used to drop back in the day that killed them off. Now they do less of that & they spread. We have cool/cold temps from Nov-April. I've seen it drop below 32 degrees in June. Myself I will take cool & even cold temps over 90-100+ degrees. The moose up here are sometimes loaded with ticks. In 1972-1976 my father got stationed in Charleston SC & we lived in Goose Creek. I had never seen a tick. Let alone a gator or poisonous snake. Times & Weather patterns are changing.

In the southeast, mild winters mean more ticks the next summer. Not sure about Maine.

The bug/pest situation the past few years with no winter had been crazy! I've never really had any big issues at my house but the last two years I've treated the property several times for ants, yellow jackets and the tick issue was definitely more severe. Bi found several just going in my back yard which had not been an issue for easily a decade.

We now have ticks from Texas and Colorado now in Illinois. Both bring new problems for both humans and pets.

Last time I checked, we bought a house way south of North Dakota. Maybe we did the Wizard of Oz relocate.

The cold weather in the South also puts a temporary check on Kudzu and English Ivy.

Yeah, it's a bit concerning isn't it Harry? I'm countin' on the Kudzu for backyard vehicle storage cover, too.

We visit Reading often. We go a lot to Lancaster and surrounding areas. I love driving in Lancaster around the farms etc, the roads are awesome and I get to stretch the legs on my Charger LOL.

But as far as this cold? Today isn't that bad and more of a normal cold winter day. it's 40 Degrees and it's fine. I can handle this kind of weather.

If it was 59 here I'd be out on the deck with a cold beer!

Ticks can survive cold temps. To do any real damage to them it must be an extended deep freeze with no cover like snow for insulation. We've had the deep freeze but unfortunatly we have a few inches of white stuff on the ground too.

51 today, not that bad, it was actually a relief in temperature BUT we had mad winds so no enjoying the great outdoors. I was going to spend some time in the garage but when I opened the door , the wind was whirling and it sucked.

Ah man, I love when we get a break in the weather, and it's warmish and breezy. I've been enjoying the late afternoons into the eves the past three nights, just taking advantage of the warmish weather, and doing stuff around yard, garage, and vehicles.

Dan, what you need is some layers, my friend! Polypro long johns, some merino wool socks, lightly insulated leather hiking or work boots, and a pair of coveralls. I got a medium weight set from Dickies years ago. Handy.

Other layers are polypro top, merino wool top, and a merino wool Buff brand neck gaiter, to keep the chill off when it starts to cool down.

Latest addition I'm enjoying are these Gorilla Grip gloves I picked up at Home Depot. Breathable hand back, grippy palm and fingers, but not so thick a coating that you lose tactile sensation. Surprisingly "warm". Won't say they're great for the cold, but when you're moving around doing stuff, they keep the chill off. Pretty durable, so you get quite a few uses out of them. I just washed a pair last night with some pumice hand soap and followed up with Zep Citrus Cleaner, because I got some starting fluid on them while I was working on one of the old vehicles. Rinse, hang dry, ready to go again next day. They had a 20pr-pack promo around the Holidays for $20.

Safety glasses, earplugs, and/or some Bose QC Ultra, and ready to enjoy the outdoors man - get out there!

    The gear makes the experience!
