Cary --> Rogue or Primaluna?

Posts: 937
Hi folks...

I currently have a Cary SLP-03 preamp that I use for 2 channel and HT. I was looking to possibly pick up a different pre-amplifier in the Rogue or Primaluna line with a phono input.

Has anyone had any experience with the Rogue RP-1 or Prima Dialouge?

TIA

    Logical next step is SLP-05. But no phono.

    AND, if you're running a sub, think 'bout this ...
    There are only 2 outs; 1 XLR and 1 RCA. So 1 set to mains and 1 set to sub

    I would steer you towards the Cary 98 in the FM. Otherwise, given your choices, I'd rank them as Cary 98 or the 05, Primaluna, then Rogue.

    When PrimaLuna first came out, I darn near invested. I have always like their stuff, and they seem to have some longevity and established respect now.

    If you are happy with your present preamp, why not get a stand alone phono preamp?

    I had a primaluna amplifier for a very short time..then I sent it to Danny for awhile I when I picked it up at LSAF in Dallas I talk Dennis @dkfreebird into buying it so I wouldn't have to take it back home... I sure both will tell you how much they like it!

    Why not look for a Levinson pre?

  • I have Rouge amp, downside tube sockets are on a PCB. That is not good. Primaluna is good stuff, I don't like auto bias. I am going in near future buy an Cary integrated amp. They will build with your choice of capacitors or power transformer for tubes they you may use. I must likely use 6550's tubes, use KT120 in my Rouge, not a big fan of this tubes.

    Cary, FYI, has longevity and reliability issues.

    My Prima Luna Evo 400 preamp is fantastic.

    Great build quality and the sound in my system is outstanding.
