Component identification

Hi,
In a crossover upgrade activity there are 2 components in parallel to each other within the woofer low pass.
The brown is 3.3u capacitor.
What is the blue component ---1.5u Motorola MKT capacitor??
Thank you,xtrq5vwnk645.jpg

The Blue is yes a capacitor. The big M is also used to indicate +/- 20 percent tolerance. In your case the first M is most likely 1.5uf and the second M with the circle could indicate the +/- 20%. In the past I ran across another letter symbol that actually meant the value was MUCH more by like ten times. It was a 5 volt supercap that kept power for months and memory for presets. This is not what you have here.

I believe it is MKT /mylar capacitor?

If they are in parallel, a single 4.7uf should do the trick

They are in parallel, just wondering what could be the design function of parallel capacitors with different values, different types (the brown one looks as radial MKP).

Uhh well I can't see the brown one too good to be honest ;)

Probably the intent was to do a bypass cap setup, where they do most of the desired capacitance with a less expensive cap and add a smaller value more expensive better sounding type in parallel to that. Supposed to take on a bit of the sonic character of the more expensive one.

MKP (metallized polypropylene) would (probably) be better than MKT (metallized polyester or mylar).

I'm sceptical about bypass setup. Neither capacitor has a typical bypass value.

Right but if the brown cap is the better sounding more expensive one, then this is better than a typical bypass setup.
