OK guys, I did this with a construction knife blade. I plucked up the courage and tucked the ring. Got access to six mounting bolts. I unscrewed them and just took out the tweeter with my hand. It should be noted here that magnets are indeed present both on the speaker body and on the ring itself. But the ring is held mainly by adhesive tape along its diameter.
    Huge thanks for your help!1d0muudq3ldv.jpg

Check the voice coil for continuity with a DMM, VOM, or VTVM. :)
That will tell you instantly if the tweeter is bad/dead (i.e., if it's the root cause of your no tweetage problem). It won't tell you whether the tweeter's working properly... but it'll give you valuable rule in/rule out information.

If you don't have a meter, you can, carefully (!) test the tweeter with two clipleads and a small battery (e.g., a 1.5 V "AA" cell). Connect the two clipleads to the tweeter terminals. Hold one cliplead to one battery terminal (ideally the "-" lead to the "-" terminal -- but it doesn't really matter), then quickly/briefly touch the other lead to the other battery terminal. As the circuit is "made", the battery will energize the voice coil, and the tweeter diaphram will move if the tweeter voice coil is intact. The result will be a small "tick" or audible static as the connection is made. DO NOT leave the tweeter connected the battery as current will be flowing through the voice coil, creating heat! A 1.5 V AA battery should be pretty safe -- but better safe than sorry! ;)

A DMM has a high input impedance and can safely measure the DC resistance of the tweeter's voice coil with no concern for the well-being of a (good) tweeter. :)

PS If you don't have clipleads...well... heaven help you. ;)

These speakers sound amazing. Very detail and an amazing punch low end.

This trend kind of took a different direction but is all good in the name of Polk fans.

The Amp noise is gone after a few on and off tries it went away power comes back silent and smooth once again.

    Cheers

I've read nothing but good things about these speakers. I'm happy with my 2Bs, but I've got the itch to get a pair of these. Wish I had bought them when I had the discount code!

  • Hi Vasyl777, if it's not prying (no pun intended) how did you blow out a fairly new tweeter in a high-end/high-res speaker? That's a little scary!

For the center channel I am between the R350 or the R400 not sure yet what to get but need to do it soon as the sale ends today.

I will also get the R900 for Atmos.

The R900 arrived last Wednesday no time to get them setup. Will try today, but not sure maybe I want to wait for the center so I don't have to do the calibration again.

    Ahh tempted.

    Cheers.
