Last I was here was in 2016, I believe. This year my Vincent audio tube preamp died so I've been fooling around with one of those Chinese tube preamps in the meantime. I think I'm gonna need a few hundy's for the Vincent repair so that will have to wait until the holidays are over because I'm broke now.

Yeah, so I bought an AIYIMA Tube T7 Audio 6N3 Tube Preamp Bluetooth 5.0. I rolled in some nice tubes from Riverstone and replaced the cheapo opamps with Burr-Brown ones. The output from that is going to a Parasound HCA-1000A. I'm feeding the tube preamp from a TEAC DAC via rca's, which is fed by optical cable from my Oppo Blu-Ray player. I have to say...for what it costs me I'm very impressed with the sound. When I do an A/B with the Tube preamp vs. using the Pioneer VSX 1120k as a preamp I'm hearing some definite differences. The Tube preamp (I know it's just a buffer stage, btw) has pinpoint imaging and detail. You can hear where each instrument is coming from. The Pioneer gives a wider soundstage, less detail but warmer sound. If I play with the tone controls on the tube pre I can get it to sound better than the Pio. So it's a bunch of fun playing around with it. I would recommend that preamp in a heartbeat for a beginner audiophile 2ch system.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned this. Polk has reintroduced a new Polk SDA and they are actually making award winning speakers.

How do their new bookies sound? And how do they compare with the Elacs?

They are very nice and much more to my taste than the ELACs (i.e., the ones I have, the Debut 2.0 B6.2).

I like how you're sticking with tubes AND experimenting while doing so.

I found a pr. of GoldenEar Triton Ones at a yard-sale a few years ago for a great discounted price. :p Listened to them again last night and I certainly need to listen to them a lot more than I do.
My neck issues over the past 40 years got a lot better about 5 years ago, and I've started to do what I wanted to do but couldn't for most of the past 10 years. It's been awesome being able to work 50% or more of what I used to do. Check out "my downsizing" thread. I'm still working on it and will be for a long time, I think. I had slowly accumulated a lot of stuff during those years, and I wasn't enjoying my stereo's as much as I should've been. After getting those Triton Ones and my health getting better and better, I made a goal to reclaim space for musics' sake.

A couple of members have had children. :)

One member had a "widow maker" heart attack but survived thank God. o:)

Another member lost everything due to that horrible "100 year" monster flooding a year ago or more. :'(

Yup, Polk Audio re-vamped the SDA into these new L800 speakers. These and a lot of their newer speakers are getting great reviews this past year or more. The new speakers aren't cheap, and their sound isn't either from what I've read.

99% of talk about Politics and 99% of any opinions about covid was BANNED. Those were some popcorn eating days for sure. One member was doing a lot to HELP America in the beginning of this Pandemic. It was always nice to see what he was doing each week for the USA. Then he couldn't post anymore due to the new BAN.

A member quit drinking and is doing great with his sobriety for year or two now. o:) His thread on no more audio purchases for a year didn't go as well. :D

One member had one of the BEST cross-over upgrades ever made on this forum I believe, by another member. There's a thread on that too. B)

I made the same goal to stop buying because I really had no more room to put anything else. I didn't have room for the Triton Ones but the price was so low, and I had just enough money to buy them. I had to put them in a small isle until I slowly made room over a long period of time. They are set up properly now. I fell off the wagon a year later when I just had to buy a set of speakers that are made here locally. Their price was fair too.

I think we had a 3 day long 112 mph hurricane while you were gone.
It was scary but it doesn't come close to what people went through with the 200+miles long tornado/s that destroyed town after town after town a couple of weeks ago.

    I'm sure there's a lot more that I'm forgetting. These past 2 years have been &&^$#^&*(#LL. It's a wonder I haven't had a stroke yelling at the TV. :#

    later.
Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.

Man being gone for around 2 years makes me wonder what I missed, I then read Tony's post and glad to hear there is a lot of wins around here but also my heart goes out to the members who received the opposite hand.

Life here hasn't been a peach but I complain about the small picture items when in the larger sense, I am doing about as good as one person possibly can. Obviously, the new kiddo is almost 2 years old now, I am hitting 30 in just under 2 weeks, another baby on the way in June.

I haven't had much time for listening and switched to just a soundbar in the living room for kiddo safety. Just moved into a new bigger house and broke out the SDA2Bs for the first time in 2 years, what a great experience and took me back to why I fell in love with this hobby in the first place...hence I come back here and think of everyone on this site.
