Giving away a non-working APC S10 (Silver) to Polkies in St. Louis, MO. Won’t ship.

The LED display stopped working, and I’m certain the battery needs replacing.

The display disconnects from the front of the unit, so perhaps, someone can fix it?

Wanted to allow Polkies a chance to decide if they wanted to take a stab at fixing it.

The S10 has voltage regulation/surge protection/line conditioning, can’t remember what else, but I’m sure a manual can be found online. 12 outlets.

    Zoom in on the faceplate, as there are a couple scuffs/scratches.

    Reminder: the LCD/LED information stopped displaying, that is part of what needs repair, besides the battery replacement.

    For those into power cables, the APC is a 10ft. / 12awg.

    I don't know of any other issues and am the original owner.

    As far as I know there weren’t issues with the outlets, but I can’t guarantee anything. I’m unsure what ultimately caused it to stop working. It is old; I’m pretty sure it’s 10+ years old.

    The MOV's inside could have taken a hit. The Battery needs to replaced every 3-5 years. Unless it's completely damaged , should be fixable. Excellent unit, I have been using APC units for decades. They never ever let me down.

    metal oxide varistors. very similar to a Thermistor and something you may be more familiar also called a polyswitch. After taking hits they are no good. The item in most instances will still work but you no longer have the protection they gave.

    As stated above. They are what blow apart when a Surge protector gets hit. They are not the best technology in todays Surge Protection. Companies like Surge X and now Audioquest use the most advance protection as far as I know.

    Nothing wrong with MOV technology, it's an older design but todays higher end Surge Protectors use a Non Sacrifice design. What happens is an electrical surge will come into the surge protector and it will coil the energy and convert it into heat. It doesn't lose it's ability to do so like a MOV will.

    You should do some research on Surge protection. it's all good to learn about. Most companies today still use MOV tech. It's good but not the best.
