Monitor 11's Left or Right Identification

I just picked up a pair of Monitor 11's and have enjoyed listening to them. I have recently found out through the forum threads that the speakers apparently have a right and left designation. Looking on the back of mine, I see a shadow of a missing sticker above the wire connectors that probably held that information.
Question: Is there a way to tell which speaker is supposed to be the right or left designee by looking at the crossover or something inside the speaker cabinet? Thanks for any help.

Yes, remove one of the mid-drivers and look for some acoustic foam under it. In the left speaker the foam will be under the right mid-driver and under the left driver of the right speaker, IIRC. That said, the foam will be rotted by now, it may have even fallen down inside the cabinet, so you may only see the glue residue. Either way, it's best to replace the foam.Political Correctness'.........defined

Thanks so much. I checked the left speaker and there was foam under the right mid-range as you stated. It's also in great condition. I will mark the little white stickers L and R to keep them straight. My next step is recapping them. Any suggestions on good caps that will fit on that crossover? Or do I need to open a new comment line?

Do you have a white sticker with serial number somewhere near the binding posts? I've never seen the elusive Monitor 11's before but my RTA-12B's have serial numbers right above the binding posts. One white sticker has 11 2535 and the other has 11 2538. There's no R or L.

That is interesting. Why don't both drivers have the foam?

All of the "good" caps will be much larger, so mounting options will need to be worked out. Sonicap does not offer 45uF caps, so you'll have to use something like Solen for those. Be sure to upgrade the resistors while you're in there. Mills are my choice.Political Correctness'.........defined

On my 11's each driver has a label on the back. The left one has MWxxxxL & the right MWxxxxR.. While your playing around make sure both lefts are lefts & both rights are rights. Glue the magnets on each side with LocTite so magnets dont shiftPost edited by boston1450 on..

Did you poke a finger into it?
It passed the poke test. However, the foam has lost it's "foamieness" and is pulling away from the sides. It's has probably 50% of life in it, so I will replace it on both speakers. Thanks. -
The labels on the back of my left speakers have no stamps on it and nothing to designate left or right.

No, it's a dark grey foam. Here's what it looks like. It broke in half when I pulled it out due to deter age and deterioration.

I'm going with the Solen caps for the 45uf replacements, however PE only carries 43uf and 47uf. Should I go with the 43uf and is the 12amp rating on the Mills 4.5 ohms okay? thanks for any help.

Bringing this back from the dead!
I just acquired a really nice pair of Monitor 11s and I need to replace 2 of the drivers.
My question is the mw6600x drivers are all the same correct? The only thing that varies is the baffling in the cabinet behind the "inside" driver that signifies left or right?

That's what I thought but then I come across a few drivers here and there like the one above that have an L on the tag. I'm guessing that was maybe just for the sake of their inventory when building them? I don't think I've ever seen one that has an R on it tho, ironically enough.

They are all the same, I've had/got one that is marked M11-L but the driver number is still mw6600. -

For S&G, pull all your drivers to see how they are marked.
For there to be a left and right MW6600x Polk would have to of had different spec drivers made and for their limited use I can't see Polk doing that.Political Correctness'.........defined
