that the problem right there. the movie was advertised as a horror movie, all the trailers showed people running and hiding. if you do decide to see the movie then make sure you have low expectations and dont forget that the movie isnt about what u think its about. maybe then you wont be disappointed.
and man, did u see sigourney in galaxy quest? paper bag that and ur good. -
Excellent use of a story line to describe aspects of the human condition. Strong parallels to chaos theory.
Good use of color and shadow.
RT1 -
how does it parallel to the chaos theory? i don't have the movie so i can't watch it again but i remember nothing to do with chaos, and i don't remember chaos being part of the message, atleast for me. what did you think had something to do with chaos theory?

PLOT SPOILER
CAREFUL IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN YET
Despite the elders best attempts to control the environment and isolate their world from things they have determined as unwanted, natural forces within each individual caused this world to crumble, bringing their controlled order to an end.
If controlled order is an unnatural state
And the village was experiencing controlled order
Then the village was in an unnatural state
The town was destined to fail, chaos would ensue until a more natural order predominated. Things which we try to control will continually try to spin out of that very control as you move forward along a time continueum. A sort of state of eternal flux.
Whether one agrees or not is unimportant, however, I believe the crux of the film's message is to think about it.
RT1
PS--Yes the marketing department used our desire to feel "fear" in an environment where we know we are safe to get you and me to go see, rent, or buy the movie. But that was the marketing scheme not the writer's. I could have been perfectly happy to have the monsters be real, but the message would have been lost and that would of been a shame. -
ok i see what you are saying now, except did the town fail? i don't remember the ending. did they stay in the village? that want the first message i got when i saw the movie. M. night's movies always seem to have this "everything happens for a reason" kind of message in them. it sticks out the most in Signs but you can easily see it in this movie with the blind girl.
-
I suppose the village failed in the sense that the "evil" the elders thought they could isolate themselves from still found them.
You have the plot line for the sequel, go for it!!!!

I bought this one last week and finally got around to watching it today with the wife. We both enjoyed the hell out of it. Another great film from M. Night...A+

Very Mr. 6th sense!

Finally watched it for the first time tonight... gotta admit, it's better than most of his flicks. The ending that pissed so many people off was the only part I liked about the movie. Everything else (as always!) was so damned boring, bland and non-emotional, I almost went to sleep. The end tied up a lot of loose ends and gave the movie a twist that it so badly needed. Other than that, "Magic rocks!!!" hahahahaahah God I hate M. Night Shittymovie.Never kick a fresh **** on a hot day.

I know I am late to the game. I got the movie off of EBAY and it was a superbit DVD. My first. Although it was not advertised as such.
I thought the movie was quite good. I did not end up as a horror movie but was scary a place or two. It was more about the relationship of the Village. I can see why those who like blood an gore and a need for a cheap thrill would not like it.;) -

As far as I know no known superbit of this title exists, at least, not an R1 version.I got the movie off of EBAY and it was a superbit DVD.If...
Ron dislikes a film = go out and buy it.
Ron loves a film = don't even rent. -
That is why I was surprised. The DVD also did not come with an insert and the other languages on the DVD were French and Asian languages Thai, Malaysian.... Very strange. It was a DVD9 and had a superbit sticker on it. Also right below the Title "The Village" was Das Dorf. So I am thinking it came from overseas. As far as I know no known superbit of this title exists, at least, not an R1 version.
Here is the DVD on ebay I won. However, the picture is different then the actuall DVD they sent. The title is in the lower half of the DVD and the Words Das Dorf was written below the title. Just curious if there is some way of checking the DVD to see if it really is superbit or if it is just a sticker. -
