Turntable Mounting Idea

My father is helping me build a component rack for my vintage stereo. He is an electrical engineer and has been very helpful helping me to understand all things stereo. He has also been vital understanding some of the conversations and recommendations on this site. He recommended I cantilever mount a shelf on the wall for the turntable....

What do are your thoughts concerning this? I have SDA SRS 2.3tl speakers.

    I think that is a smart way to mount a TT. I really wish I had the space,and ability to move my gear to take advantage of wall mounting. Takes a bouncy floor out of the equation.

    If your component rack is well built, anchored down with heavy electronics and sitting on a solid floor it isn't necessary. If you hear footfalls while playing vinyl then yes a wall mount would be a better choice

    I know 2 persons who’ve had issues with wall mounted tt shelves. I’m not sure it’s the way to go

    True, it all depends.... On a suspended floor, a load bearing wall is less likely to have issues than a non-load bearing wall. Load bearing walls will have support beneath them, either foundation or support posts.

    I recall a Greek audiophile video and he had the turntable suspended from the ceiling.

    Those wall mounted racks are great as long as it is sized correctly for your TT. You put some bolts thru the rack's frame and into the wall studs. That thing ain't going nowhere. Highly recommended!

    What's the turntable model? That's an important aspect too. If it's something that's already well isolated mechanically there may be little to gain from a wall mount shelf.

    They can be a good idea if they're mounted into a masonry wall or at least into wall studs. It may also be good to not have it mounted really close to the 2.3TLs

    Back in MD in the early 70s I was living in a second floor apartment. At that time I had a completely manual AR-XB turntable, and if you walked in the apartment then the turntable skipped. I put a shelf on the wall for it, and after that it worked perfectly, and sounded great.
