Are these "OLD" and worn out Solen Capacitors in my Hartley's ?

What do you think about these Hartley Solen Capacitors ( red ended ) that I think are heating up and causing distortion. Do I need to have a diagnostic machine to test their specs to tell? Or do the red ends mean= OLD. I thought there was a little resistor behind the Caps for some reason. :s

Newer Solens have white ends. Should I go ahead and order the white ended Solens?

They do appear to be old Solens.
They should be fine -- well, as good as Solens get :)
I mean, you can check them for ESR in circuit and/or capacitance out of circuit, with an ESR meter or an LCR meter, respectively.
Cheaper to replace. Solens are cheap capacitors (in both senses of the word).

They are probably as good as the day they were installed.

Your issue of distortion after listening for a bit would be a voice coil I would guess

    Thanks guys.

I'll concentrate on the voice coils and tube alignment now.

They do have a minimal air gap between the tube and center pole.

    Thanks again.
