Major roon update

Did anyone else download the new roon update? It’s a LOT different, not sure what I think yet. Figured it would be cool if people posted new features they liked or didn’t like.

One of the first things I noticed is it now tell you how much you listened in the last four weeks. I’m at 301 hours, yikes! But that’s mostly background music...

I just updated to 1.8 Tuesday on the laptop and core on my Sonore server with vortexbox 2.4. No problems after updating.

I like the new look. Haven't had any time to check it out any further.

Sam Ting here. I did like the feature that showed the devices status (playing, paused, etc...) when selecting a device. Sometimes I forget to pause and although it doesn’t hurt anything I like to know.

Otherwise, just a new look on an excellent product!

Just updated too. A different look on an excellent product as already stated. No problems with the update. Need to play around with it more this weekend to see the advancements.

  • Night one there were some problems in responsiveness and the new releases section was not appearing on the iPhone app but things are stable again. I haven’t explored everything but, update to my ROCK on NUC and the iPhone app were not a problem.

Really think it’s a great improvement. The new stats are cool. I love stats!

Had zero problems on the updating process; very disappointed in the changes.

The update seems to have been all about style, not substance. So much effort went into revamping things that already worked well. And things that needed fixing, were left untouched.

Weird aesthetic & architectural choices were seemingly made to maximize white space and present the cleanest, simplest screens possible at the cost (IMO) of information and functionality. A few useful functions that were directly available have been buried in menus, force navigation away from intuitive places, and require many more clicks to perform. Info location has been shifted to places that diminish utility. Some info markers, badges, and screens were simply dropped. Boolean functions were changed which caused personal selection presets to be useless. Look and feel suffer IMO from weird font, color, and placement choices. Huge amounts of real estate are wasted, especially on desktop. So, reduced efficiency but modern uncluttered screens.

I absolutely loved the previous version - it was getting close to perfect for my listening habits and gear. If I could easily revert all devices, I would. I'll continue to use despite these issues but I'm a bit crushed at the curious choices Roon has made with this update.
