Yep agreed they could also be bucking magnets. Problem is they change the speaker parameters, thus the performace?

Nope only the flux field it will not add bass or anything else that I'm aware of. Many many drivers had those that would be anywhere near a CRT. Most would also enclose all that in a metal dome that went over they whole magnet assembly.

Adding to the fray, those are indeed bucking magnets, which were very common back in the CRT days. They do not alter the performance.

Very important, do not try to remove them as you risk damaging the driver.

  • @antepli10 , regarding the IC, only the Pin carries the signal in the Pin-Blade IC (the blade is there to improve retention in the socket). Only the earlier Blade-Blade IC had signals in both conductors.

You can make a temporary IC with an RCA cable and clipping off the petals, and inserting the pins into the sockets, while you make preparations for the Neutrik SpeakONs (they way to go).

  • Resurrecting an old post with an FYI.
I just called Polk and the rep said there are no replacements for the MW6510, MW6511, or the "direct replacement" RD6110-1 in stock. Assuming this is indefinite. He recommended I call Midwest Speakers....uggghh!
Apologize if this has been covered elsewhere.

Polk is no longer selling replacement parts for their vintage speakers. Midwest is the source for those now. However, instead of offering each MWxxxx driver model they are offering a one model fits all. Therefore, if you want the correct model you need to shop eBay as Ivan suggested.

So much for having the correct impedance! Crossovers will surely work in harmony with this effort. :#
