@aprazer402 Cats and dogs are both pack animals. Neither, in my experience, has a particular affinity for its own breed, but if their humans are gone for long periods of time, a companion is nice. My dog and cat now get along well and even play sometimes, although Figgy (the cat), at 12 months old, absolutely whomps Louis at 17 years old.
Cats do a lot better alone, because they are so independent, but any living thing needs love, and lots of it. Just my humble opinion. -
My cat plays with the dogs.
Every morning all three run down the hallway together for breakfast. -

We've had up to four cats at once. With that group, none of them were siblings. I'll say that before we picked up the fourth, three was a bad number. One was always the odd man out. We now have a pair of sisters. They're great! Out of all of them, I feel the females have been more affectionate toward us.

We have 10 cats. My JRT, Jed passed away in 2017. Last dog I had and I don't know if I will have another. Not that I don't like dogs, just miss the stinky mutt too much to go through that kind of pain again.
Not that I don't love our cats. I do. And it hurts to lose one of them too.

Currently at three cats since my first cat, Pudge, died this summer. I have to admit four, and now three, cats are a bit too much. The litter boxes need to cleaned everyday, and dust goes everywhere. Two cats are probably just right. Anyway, here they are.

Marley is our 5th American Cocker Spaniel. Our last two have been rescue's, Marley and Maggie. Marley is a hunter, he's already caught a possum in our back yard.
At my son's house in Austin.
Here's a 3rd and 4th Cockers, Marco and Maggie at Christmas. No longer with us.
Our first Cocker with our son, mid 80's.
I remember that parking garage. My brother had one and it was pretty much in every single waiting room we went to (family Dr., Dentist, hospital...) -

Vincent and Diamond have a sumo wrestling match while meals are being prepared with Diamond usually coming out on top...usually quite literally as she will sit on Vincent to keep him from getting back up and attacking.
Wilson and Anthony will try and imitate them but Anthony has no teeth and weighs about half as much as Wilson while Wilson doesn't really know how to "fight" and usually ends up laying on his back with Anthony in a headlock while ferociously bathing Anthony's head.
Penny just disapproves of everyone and everything...she is our HR cat, after all.
Angelica would like nothing more than to watch the world burn because then it would be warm and she likes laying on the sun-blasted mid day driveway (only time she goes outside)."Some people find it easier to be conceited rather than correct."

Resting in the sweet spot listening to some tunes as she had a rough weekend stalking the pesky squirrels.
Not much stalking today as were getting some rain and since her Majesty does not like getting her feet wet, they get a pass today.

Former barn cat who lost his job (i.e. the owners of said barn let his mouth get infected so bad that he had to have all of his teeth removed which pretty much made his mousing production zero so they sent him back to the shelter).
The shelter named him Von Mew as he would wander around emitting this little mewmrrrmew mew noise all the time.
When we adopted Payton, my wife said for me to pick out one of their other "special needs" cats to bring home with her. The choices were 2 mostly blind cats and Von Mew.
Since we have an open ledge around the staircase that the cats love to chase each other around, I was worried one of the blind kitties would get seriously hurt in a fall and decided we should take Von Mew instead.
My wife said that he looked like a grumpy old man in his pictures and I said, "You're right...like a Vincent or something."
She replied, "Yeah! Vincent Von Mew, Esquire!"
To which I immediately snapped back, "Esquire??!! Why, I will have your guts for garters, you feeble peasant! For that is the notorious pirate-lord, The Baron Vincent Von Mew, Scourge of the Seven Seas!"
She looked me straight in the eyes and said, "You're an idiot...but that is a great name for him."
So I guess it stuck.
He really is a lively fellow for someone who drools excessively when he sleeps and has a goopy eye (for some reason, he has always produced an abundance of tears from his one eye which the vets claim is nothing wrong with him...just weird). But he loves to chase the other cats and gets the zoomies all the time. Since he is also the 3rd heaviest of the bunch, he thunders around the house in the middle of the night like a drunken pirate.

Before I got my cats I had three dogs at the same time for a few years. By the time I bought a digital camera they were getting up there in age. While gone now they are in my memory.
