Hey everyone, looking for inputs on 75" tv's. This is going in the soon to be finished basement. I'm not sure if Qled is worth the extra cash. It will be used for tv, movies and gaming but kids on a switch or 360.

If I was going to spend the cash on a QLED - I’d go for a OLED instead - even if I had to go down a screen size.

OLED , without a doubt the best picture you will ever see....
Blacks are blacks - QLED is not capable of that kind of contrast - not even the top of the line.
QLED still uses a local dimming backlight - more zones the more expensive the tv...
    It still can’t touch OLED.

Ok without spending 5k on a tv. Oled is a no go. Possible image retention. So which LCD do you recommend in the 75" size

In that case - The best Samsung QLED ( most expensive ) you can afford.
Image retention ( burn in ) , is a non issue with modern OLED... they all have pixel shift now , and a program that runs automatically after X number of hours to “clean” the screen.

I have the 75" Sony Z9D and the 65" Sony XBR900, and love both. The picture might not be the absolute best that it can be, but it sure looks stunning to me.

Will do. We have at least another 2 weeks of work in the basement before it is completed then time to set everything up and calibrate the tv. Not sure where I'll store this giant box once it arrives (first world problems)

I bought a TCL 75" TV a couple of months ago...the reviews were good and I've got zero complaints with it...ordered it via Amazon.

Looks great, nice job! and that was the size to go with.

I've been eying a deal on a previous gen 75" Sony XBR-75X-900E. My son has the only 4K TV in the house and he keeps telling to me replace our old 70" Sharp in the family room.

I'm thinking about finishing my basement as its already framed and insulated. We want the industrial look, epoxy floor, black ceiling, grey walls. Right now its just a workout area and storage but the Mrs. wants a craft area. Will see in a year or two.

Sounds like our basement before the reno. Took them 4 weeks. In the pic that's only half of the finished section. Total of 14 recessed lights divided into 4 sections all on dimmers. Ceiling is insulated and I added 2 in ceiling polk rci for the rears.

Not sure who that is directed to? We are sitting 15ft away from the tv. We finished just under 600sq ft down there.

Liking that floor a lot, is it laminate or tile? Or hardwood (almost forgot about that)
So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

Thank you it's laminate actually. It wasn't our first choice. We received the order of the floor we really wanted and this is what we got.

We wanted it all like the darkest one. So our contractor sent it back and we chose the one you see in the finished pic.

It looks like you used OSB for underlayment? Did your contractor recommend that be put down over the concrete? I am asking because I had carpet in my finished garage that was removed due to mold issues last year, and I am seriously considering going with laminate this time as a DIY project.

go w/a vinyl* laminate. I recommend against one made of “wood products.” I replaced regular following a flood w/it* then having 5 kids & 2 dogs - now have 3 dogs, still have 4 kids, youngest is 10.

I confess it cost more but it’s a superior product - far more scratch and water resistant. Leave a sample in a bucket of water overnight. The next day it will look the same. Regular laminate demands you wipe up spills immediately, or “you’ll be sorry ☹️“ - been there...

I have it in the Living/HT room, kitchen, main hall, and bathroom. While it installs the same as regular, because it’s more durable, you can expect to wear out more cutting tools.

I can’t comment on mold or mildew resistance. You could install OSB w/cedar chips underneath, that should help but I’d get a 2d opinion before dropping the coin.

After 2 1/2 years, still looks new. Best to ya - Tony

@gp4jesus, thanks for the comments. Cost is not so much a concern, as the total area is less than 500 sq ft, and I only want to do it once, so if it costs a little more, so be it. My reason for asking about the OSB is I was worried about the floor being ice cold in the winter, I figured a layer of wood might help with that (FYI, the whole area is well insulated and has heat & A/C). I honestly liked having the room carpeted, but I doubt I could lay wall to wall on concrete on my own; laminate, no sweat, I've done 1/2 my house with it.
Plus, this is going under a 600 lb pool table I'd rather not have to move other than to elevate it enough to slide a plank under it. :)

We have the osb on top of dimpled waterproof membrane used for foundation. It was cheaper than buying drycore. Then the vinyl planks on top. This way it serves many purposes. Waterproofing, air circulation, should water get under it can find its way to the drain and it helps for insulation. In our previous house the builder put carpet on underpad in the basement. But seeing as we were getting the basement done in this house, I asked for the floors to be done this way.

@polrbehr forgot: I bought it at Lumber Liquidators*. I think it was their best laminate. I know it came w/their best warranty. IMHO this is your best choice for under a pool table

The insurance company offered us “We will replace and install what you had, the “wood product” laminate. Or we’ll cut you a check for the same amount and you can DIY the product of your choice.” I think the vinyl laminate was a little less than their mid grade hardwood. They* suggested hardwood was a bad idea in a kitchen.

Will has, what looks like a sound solution for your dampness issue, but don’t listen to me, I’m NOT a expert at this kinda stuff. Check it all out before you pull the trigger.

    Best to ya, Tony
