DC control on HTS 12

My surround sound receiver is a Sony STR-DH520. My Polk HTS-12 sub will not detect when my Sony is turned on. I have to flip the auto on switch every time to wake it up. Can I plug a generic 12V plug into a wall outlet and plug the other into the "DC control" jack so that it will always be on?
