I've been free for 4 years. Cars, house, no credit card debt.
It's great when you get there. I see too many in their 50's and 60's jumping
into that $$$$ dream house. What do you do with a 30 year note at that age???
I did find out that some new car dealers seem to have a real tough time
with cash sales. They just about lost their mind. There must be extra perks for
them financing loans. And the bank can't seem to stop sending me notices about "refinancing" the house. Screw them all.

Congrats!!! I pay extra on my house every month, I use my credit card for purchases, and to get the rewards points, I send a payment every time I purchase something so I don't pay any interest...

The average unspent balance in our checking account has never looked like this when we had debt. Every other month or so I transfer that idle money to a better rate account. 10+ yrs debt free and loving it. If there is something we want to do or buy we just do it(within reason of course). Years ago it wasn't like that. Even if I found my "dream property" for sale I doubt I would go into debt for it.

Used to work with a single guy. His motto, he who has the lowest monthly payment and dies with the most debt wins. I couldn't live that way.

I know a lot of people with the same mentality. They want to die with 100k on credit cards, and owing the government boat loads also. They would rather live it up all the way to the end, on someone elses dime. Since they claim to not being able to take it with them, and why should they kill themselves only to leave it to someone else to enjoy after they die.

In my view, that would be great if that's how you want to live but borrowing money and not living up to your responsibilities now puts your brand of lifestyle onto others to pay for.

It's not about debt, it's about separating equity.

A fool and his (or her) equity are soon separated.
