Just heard on the Beeb -- GM throwing in the towel on the Holden brand in Australia

Probably no surprise, but still sad to see.

  • Wouldn't mind having a Chevy SS made by Holden. 400+ horsepower rear wheel drive.
    Pretty nice interior too.

If a Holden, wouldn’t the steering wheel be on the other side?

    That's what ^^^that one a Chevy SS.
  • In Australia, this car is called a Holden Commodore and yes the steering wheel is on the right(wrong) side. You have to also drive on the wrong side of the road there too.
They made the SS for the U.S. market and moved the wheel/dash over to the left.
I'am not sure I could get used to slamming thru the gears on a manual shift with my left hand on the Holden version. Clutch, brake and gas pedals may be backwards also, with the right foot operating the clutch. That would be weird.
Rumor has it that the seats are Koala Bear leather too.... :)

In the UK, the pedals are in the "normal" order... which I'm not sure is a value-add.
I assume that's true in Oz and other RHD countries, too.
Never noticed when I have been in Japan.

I never had the gumption to try to drive in the UK (which used to be quite frequently,
albeit more than two decades ago).

To turn to the left in a RHD car you turn the wheel to the right and vice versa, and you have one forward gear and six reverse.

The only thing I found tricky about RHD and driving on the left is roundabouts.

I remember a few years back this guy almost made it to the US. We had early prototypes driving around, steering wheel on the correct side, and then the program got cancelled. the Pontiac Ute!
    vw9jibxuhsu3.png

There are folks/companies out there that will do the conversion! Left hand Utes, among others.
