    As far as value goes, I have to say the ARC SP14 represents the better investment. It has most, if not all, of the features the audiophile will want. It has control flexibility which the C-J PV9 doesn't even approach. It's as well made as any component I've had the pleasure to review, and is backed by a company whose reputation for good sound and quality products is legendary. In my opinion, the sound of the SP14, via line or phono, will set new standards for the industry. I can see other companies using the SP14 as a benchmark by which to judge their own products—it's that good. It is user-friendly and attractively styled, injecting its unique form of magic into the reproduction of music to a degree I've rarely experienced before. I feel it should be included in Class A of "Recommended Components." It is a very special product.

    A preamp. This one has a phono preamp built in. Audio Research preamps are usually, perhaps always, designated with an “SP” in the model number.

    A clarification: Their line stage preamps are usually LS-(...).

    But isn't this one a line-stage?

    http://arcdb.ws/SP14/SP14.html

    It is listed as a
    Hybrid tube/FET stereo preamplifier
    under the pre-amplifier section.

    The ARC naming convention is pretty specific...
    SP = Stereo Pre-amplifier
    LS = Line stage

    And if it is a hybrid stereo pre/line stage, it will be named "SPXXL" (SP16L and SP17L)

    Thanks to those who have provided some details about this piece. But I agree with rooftop that a Seller needs to provide a full and detailed description of an item when posting an item for sale. When I first saw this posted last night, like rooftop, I also had no idea what was being offered for sale. I copied and pasted and then googled the item name (from title of op) last night but still would like more information about it from the Seller.

    Thanks.

    Ugh you’re killing me! ARC makes some of my favorite gear of all time. But fortunately for me, I wouldn’t be able to come up with the scratch without selling my current pre and some other assorted gear.
