    A preamp. This one has a phono preamp built in. Audio Research preamps are usually, perhaps always, designated with an “SP” in the model number.

    It is listed as a
    Hybrid tube/FET stereo preamplifier
    under the pre-amplifier section.

    The ARC naming convention is pretty specific...
    SP = Stereo Pre-amplifier
    LS = Line stage

    And if it is a hybrid stereo pre/line stage, it will be named "SPXXL" (SP16L and SP17L)

    Thanks to those who have provided some details about this piece. But I agree with rooftop that a Seller needs to provide a full and detailed description of an item when posting an item for sale. When I first saw this posted last night, like rooftop, I also had no idea what was being offered for sale. I copied and pasted and then googled the item name (from title of op) last night but still would like more information about it from the Seller.

Specifications: Frequency response: 30Hz–40kHz ±0.3dB (RIAA phono), 5Hz–50kHz ±0.5dB (line). Distortion: less than 0.01% at 2V output. Input impedance: 47k ohms standard, with user-adjustable resistance and capacitance (600pF as supplied) (phono); 50k ohms (line). Output impedance: 250 ohms (main), 1000 ohms (tape-out).
