Give ACE a try.

Wanted a Traeger pellet grill for Christmas this year and after shopping around online, I called my local ACE hardware and bout from them... They gave me the online price ($100 off) and will assemble and deliver for free. (Pro 575 for $699)

I got annoyed at home depot the last couple of times I went because 2 times in a row they were restocking the aisle I needed and i had to wait. (They didn't seem to be in any particular hurry.) The second time I left and went to ACE. There are lots of people working there too of which when I bought my Traeger I had 2 people helping me.

Plus they sell Ben Moore paints there too which IMHO is the best.

I go to Ace all the time for little hardware pieces - all manner of tiny screws, nuts, bolts. You can actually buy singles there instead of a whole packet like at THD. And if I later need a different size, I just go back to the hardware aisle and swap them out. They never charge me for the difference.

I like that we still have smaller home hardware stores here locally as well. I try to go to support them regularly. We have ACE Hardware and Taylor's Do-It Center. I find that they have a bunch of little stuff you can't get at the big box stores.

    I agree.
    They're GREAT "hometown" stores.
Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.

last year I went with the wife. They had a patio swing on closeout.
It made the wife's day. And the delivery guys almost beat us to the house.

Just good to know that they survived the HD and Lowes blitz and offer an alternative.

Ace is the place with the helpful hardware man.
2 channel: Anthem 225 Integrated amp; Parasound Ztuner; TechnicsTT SL1350; Vincent PHO-8 phono pre; Marantz CD6005 spinner; Polk SDA2BTL's; LAT International speaker cables, ZU Mission IC's and power cables all into a PS Audio Dectet Power center.

Other; M10 series II, M7C's, Hafler XL600 amp, RB-980BX, Parasound HCA-1500 amp , P5 preamp, all in storage. All vintage Polk have had crossover rebuilds and tweeter upgrades.

And their small parts bins are fully stocked. I've gone there for odd screws
and small parts. HD and Lowes don't have half as much, and what they do have is
    always out of stock

Trigger warning: the above-mentioned video is very of its time and is not meant to be taken politically in the context of this thread. Offered as a humorous play on words only! :|
Ace is the place with the helpful hardware man.

    Actually they've de-gendered that expression :p
I believe the 21st Century tagline is:

On topic: I like small hardware stores/chains.
Here in New England, we have Aubuchon, and down in MA there was a very small regional chain called Moores that was excellent. That was our "local" store (10 min. away) when we lived in Harvard. Their service was (and presumably still is) tremendous.

I shop the smaller, local Ace Hardware all the time. There are my go to, if they don't have it, then most generally not one does either. And yes, they price matched a Webber Natural Gas Grill for us. They had to have it shipped in, assembled it AND delivered it for the price of the Sale Add from a BBS, which there I would have had to pick it, haul it out to the vehicle myself, load it, unload it at home, assemble it, etc.

Great Service, the guy that delivered wouldn't even accept a nice tip, said it was against Store Policy.

I gotta try the Ace near me. The parking lot is always full it seems. A little farther, have to drive past the Lowes, but it has always made me curious as to why they seem to get a lot of play. I did like the Ace near the old house, the small business charm, lot's of folks always willing to help.
