B&K 4420 Reference questions

Ran across a B&K 4420 Reference with new CAPs and resistors. Two questions for the more knowledgeable than me. Owner is upgrading to a new Parasound amp.

1. Would it be that much of a sound improvement over my Outlaw 5000 running with my Yamaha RX-A2070 with my LSiM 705's since it's rated at 225 watts. I would run my 704 with my 2070.

2. If it would be a nice improvement what would be a good price for it?

I'd say yes the the b&k will have better control over the drivers. It has more peak to peak amps

    B&k 225 at 8 350 at 4 with a 450 damping factor and 75amps peak to peak current.

I paid $300 for mine I think, stock. eBay shows $3-500 stock. So $5-700 recapped?

I wouldn’t pay over $500 with caps. Otherwise I would buy one for $300 max and buy it myself.

Thanks for the info, BTW do B&K amps run hot as I have a closed space open at the back I would put it in with 3 or so inches open on top?

Should be fine. This is how much breathing room mine has had for the past I'm not sure how many years and I never shut it off. It runs more warm than hot.

Can you hear it before you buy it ? I would also ask, who did the upgrades, the owner, or a shop ? A shop will usually guarantee their work, an owner...not so much. Ask if the amp is dead silent, has any audible distortion.

I'd offer him 300 and settle on 350 if he moans.

Oh wow considering that amount of work $500 would be a really food deal...$600 wouldn’t be bad at all.

Fake Invoice Alert! (Or just bad math?...)

Anyone else notice that the Sub Total plus Sales Tax amounts aren’t added correctly?

    Hmmm...

I’ve got two B&K 4420 Reference Monos that I really like. Solid amps!

    Enjoy!

Got it for $400.00. He's going to have it hooked up so I can listen to it when I pick it up.

That’s awesome! Make sure to put it through its paces including off and on several times I would think...

Looks like he only replaced the 4 output caps and at that price I'd say not with good ones. Also why replace the resistors and trannys? They almost never go bad and B&K used really good name brand ones anyway. If rebuilt right it should match Parasound IMHO. The 4420 is built like a tank

well resistors do go bad especially if the amp was driven very hard for long periods. Transistors also have their own problems and sometimes need replaced for said same reasons. Sometimes they cook themselves if the paste dries out from behind them. The amp has been bought and the OP if they have questions can verify by calling the place that did the work and ask questions they might have about the work done. I myself would have done that before I ever started the path down the road on price.

Got it hooked up tonight. Music sounds better overall, bass, mid range and highs are more musical. Even my wife liked it better.
