Sad news. The Cars were one of my favorite bands from my high school days.
RIP and say hello to Ben.
So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

My uncle introduced me to The Cars when he was in high school and I was still an elementary school tike, around 1980. I remember him having The Cars, Panorama, and Candy-O. I was a fan from then on. Such a unique voice. RIP

One of my favorite bands from that era. Preceded in death by bandmate Benjamin Orr, who I thought had the better voice. They definately had a different sound. First two albums still get regular play in my system.
  • RIP Rick. Another one of the greats.

    My favorite Cars story.

Supposedly, the band members, early on, asked passers-by (somewhere in or around Boston) about various potential names for the band, including The Cars.
It was said that no one liked the name The Cars, but the band (Ocasek, presumably) chose it anyway. The rationale? When :) the band released a greatest hits album, they could call it Used Cars.

spoiler alert: to the best of my knowledge, they never did.

    B)

I saw the Cars perform once, in the early 80s at (if memory serves) the old Capital Centre in Largo, MD. They were, unfortunately, distressingly unremarkable.

Sad news indeed. I really enjoyed his solo work too. Anyone that hasn't heard '' This Side of Paradise '' should give it a listen.

They had kind of a honky car sound to them...especially songs like Let the Good Times Roll, Candy-O, etc. I figured that's where they got the name, like when someone mentioned 'you guys sound like cars'.

    Best...mullet...ever. RIP

I often use their song, Moving in Stereo, to test for stereo separation on equipment.
