More bad news

I have not come bearing much good news lately. I found out today that my older brother, Jeff, who is only 52 has prostate cancer. It appears as though it is pretty rampant in the prostate, but we are hopeful that it hasn't spread. If it's confined to the prostate the outlook is pretty good, if not, it could be trouble. It was caught during his annual exam, so I encourage all of you who are over 50 to get checked out. He has no symptoms so it most certainly would have been out of control if he had waited until he was experiencing symptoms. Any and all prayers would be greatly appreciated.

    Sorry to hear about your brother, Paul. Hopefully since they caught it early they can put it in remission quickly. My father had prostate cancer in his early 60s and outpatient radiation took care of it. Good vibes that it will be the same for Jeff!

    I had prostate cancer and had mine removed and everything has been fine for 3 years. Hopefully it hasn't spread and they can removed it and he'll be fine.

    Of course, I don't know where your brother lives. However, if he is in the NYC metro area or is willing to travel to Manhattan, I strongly recommend Dr. Ashutosh Tewari, Chair, Department of Urology, Icahn School of Medicine, Mount Sinai Hospital, 625 Madison Ave., NYC, NY 100022, 212-241-9955.     My annual physical requires a prostate exam, so far so good. And the much dreaded, and 5 year delay, colonoscopy, was performed this year, everything was negative. Thank God!

    If he's in Texas, I had robotic prostatectomy at UT Southwestern in Dallas by the Chairman of the Department of Urology. He had done over 1,200 procedures when I had it done in 2016. His name was Claus G. Roehrborn, M.D.

    My brother received good news today in the fact that the cancer has not spread. However, the cancer is rampant in the prostate so the surgery to remove it will be extensive and he could have some permanent issues as a result. Again, though thank you all for the prayers and good thoughts because the news could have been much, much worse.

    Surgery is scheduled for September 6.
