2 POLK PSW505 SUBS for the price of 1 SVS = something to think about, or laugh at?

I'm in a interesting bind. Currently with the POLK promotions I can purchase (2) BRAND new POLK PSW505's for $589 shipped. My original thought was getting (1) SVS PB12-ISD subwoofer for $599. Although, since SVS does not offer free shipping this would actually make the total cost around $660ish for the SVS.

With that given, how would the concept of just going with the (2) Polk's, which on paper would give me 600 RMS watts, vrs 320 RMS with the SVS. Given how highly touted the SVS products are, would it be a bold claim that (2) POLK PSW505's could match and perhaps exceed the overall experience of the (1) SVS PB12-ISD? My theater room is also very large, 25 Feet wide and 30 deep, I have a 106" Fixed Screen. I'm trying to keep the cost somewhat down but yet want to really fill things up.

Am I just fooling myself here.. Should I just somehow find another $300 and get the "PB12-ISD/2" for $899? I wish shipping was free

let me know what you think would be highly appreciated as I hope to order soon.

    Check w/Polk Thug. He had two 505 and ended up w/ a SVS.

    If you do decide to go with the SVS, you could always add another one of those down the road when you got the extra funds.

    Personally, I'd think going with the SVS would be a better idea, buy as much as you can afford.

    How talll is that room? You have 750 square ft, but it's the cubic ft that is really going to determine what you need in terms of a sub...

    The SVS will SMASH them - maybe not above 30hz (which will probally still be moderately close) - but below 30hz, it won't even be fair... the Polks will be obliterated...

    And there is alot of stuff below 30 hz in movies, that seperates the Subwoofers From The Monsters

    I went from two 505's to two PB10's. I'm guessing that the twin 505's will be 'louder' than the single PB12, but they won't be able to go as deep. I've got a chart somewhere on this forum comparing the 505's vs PB10's, which will help you visualize what I'm talking about.

    Stroonzo is an Italian (Sicilian dialect perhaps) for Caca or poo. Example: I feel like stroonzo. I have got to stroonzo etc...

    Just a quick question, that drop off is quite large... Was the POLK inaudible with that drop-off, say at 25-20 hz or was just hugely weak in power and sound?

    Appears SVS is the true choice with bass below 25 hz, that chart is somewhat depressing for any polk fan

    Just by looking at the chart, it was still pretty strong at 25 HZ. Less than 60db for a subwoofer is probably closer to inaudible for a subwoofer. If you have a ratshack db meter, listen to sounds at frequences between 50-80 and see if you can live with a subwoofer that is that loud. There is a good bit of sound at 70 db, however it is nice in an HT to go low and loud at the same time.

    This is all IMHO though, so take what you want and leave the rest.

    There's still a lot of sound there, just not in comparison.

    The PB10's really are remarkable, I had 'car audio friend' over and I played a 120-20Hz sweep followed by a 40-0Hz sweep, and he asked, "Are those 12's or 15's?" :)

    I'm i'm viewing the PB12 chart correctly, and the one POLKTHUG posted, is that suggesting that the PB10 drops off less then the PB12 after 20hz? YIKES!!!

    Yes, but also keep in mind that my chart has "room gain".
    However the PB10 is definitely ground breaking at 19-150Hz +/- 1 db, when tested in the same conditions as the PB12.

    The I have the PCi 22-31 (the 25-31 with a free 22hz tune) --

    And it hits strong at 15hz in my room.

    The PB10 is tuned to 18hz, where as the PB 12 is tuned to 22hz - so the PB10 will roll off later...

    You also have to remember Thug has DUAL** PB10s

    Some great info here , and I think honestly dual PB10's are really a nice way to go with there amazing performance, low footprint, and price. Having two stacked would be nice, but I'd like to have them in different parts of the theater to help BASS the entire theater even more. Since I've started this thread I've found a INFINITY HPS-1000 subwoofer which I'm picking up this week, I'm gonna give it a shot and see how it works. Anyone by chance any feelings on that unit? if things don't work out I might be looking at a dual pb10 option :)
