Crossover settings.

Options
I'm a newbie so I'm a little confused about this. Ordered my sub so I want to make sure I get it set up right when it gets here.
My receiver has settings to set a crossover point for each individual channel. The sub also has the knob on the back to set crossover. What do you do with the knob if you want to set different frequencies for different channels ? Is that not used ? I'll be plugging it into the pre out subwoofer jack on the reciever.
Bought a Polk Audio HTS 12.

most set all speakers to 80hz and let the sub do the work. Then turn the low pass knob on the sub all the way up and use the LFE out from the receiver to the LFE in on the sub. Your receiver will only send the 80hz and below signal to the sub. Turning the low pass know all the way up basically takes the internal sub crossover out of the equation. This way you do not have cascading crossovers in play.

Is LFE the same as pre out ? No LFE out on my reciever. Just pre out.

OK your LFE does come from that pre-out you mentioned. It's numbered #6 in the back and in the manual. Connect that to the LFE on the sub and turn up the low pass knob on the sub all to way up to 160.
