Altos, clear is my "go-to". I have a stemmed crystal shot glass that I use exclusively for this.
I like the taste of Patron but don't like the aftertaste and never could understand or justify the price.

Anytime, Tom. Remember at Joe's how my wife and I had those boxes of tequila in the back of the car? We did some tequila treasure hunting in Rome, GA on the way down, and she continued looking around north ATL that day.

We just got lucky in Rome. When we treasure hunt, we normally hit every liquor store in a town, and never know what we'll find. Dalton, GA was another pleasant surprise. With a few friends and family down in ATL, I've stopped at several towns along the way from Nashville, and hit most of metro ATL as well.
Our biggest trip (and haul) was Memphis. We hit about 80 liquor stores over the course of two days, and came home with probably 50 or more bottles of tequila.
Selection varies by state, with ABC controlled states being the worst. Alabama, for example, has a very limited selection.
There are a few online liquor retailers that will ship to TN (and other states). The best one is located in San Diego, and as you might imagine, SoCal has a huge selection of tequilas available. I emailed your pictures and comments to a couple of friends. My girl really gets involved with tequila and making margaritas using minimum stuff. I had to travel to visit one of our textile plants in Mexico City back around 2002. At lunchtime, the plant manager called several of us in to the conference room. He was going to have a big party that weekend and wanted us to help him pick out which tequila(s) to serve.
He had about 7 or 8 different brands which we all sampled and gave our opinions on. Yeah, that plant is out of business now. -

Not a fan of the 1942. Not near as smooth and has a after taste reminiscent of stills made out of a dirty car radiator. But hey, some people like that...Gustard X26 Pro DAC

Circling back to @dragon1952 's original question about a budget sipper, I want to reiterate Suerte as a recommendation. I re-stocked the blanco yesterday, and am enjoying immensely tonight.
This is always at a good price point, so give it a shot, or preferably a sip
if you see it. One of my pet peeves is folks shooting good tequila...but actually, if it's bad tequila, you shouldn't be drinking it at all

I agree. Shooting is for college kids who can't stand the taste of alcohol to begin with. I like to sip with a good cerveza. I'll check this one out but my next will be the aforementioned Fortaleza. Corralejo Resposado is one of my favorites.
The best man at my wedding was born in Mexico and we've spent many nights at his home enjoying a wide variety of tequila (his family gets him different brands for his birthday without fail).
Milagro is supposed to be very good but I've not had it yet.

I was going to mention the Corralejo. When I was in Mexico City, the planner that I was working with there, gave me a bottle as a gift for helping. Very nice stuff.

DJ Anejo is our choice - 1942 too sweet for my 'buds. When liquor store is out of DJ we get Casamigos, if out of both we get Qui. BTW, I believe Patron is bottled in Las Vegas. Owned by the Paul Mitchell hair products dude.[

Funny how everyone's palate is different. I actually find Casamigos (George Clooney's tequila) too sweet for me. I lean more towards the earthy and vegetal flavor profiles, but still always looking for the taste of cooked agave to be present.DJ Anejo is our choice - 1942 too sweet for my 'buds. Aging and blending (reposados and añejos) is an art all to its own. Most brands utilize used whiskey barrels from the states. Since bourbon barrels can only be used once, there are plenty of one-and-done barrels available. Some brands have their own barrels made (brand new) from American or even French oak. And some also incorporate used wine, sherry, cognac, and other barrels to impart different flavors; in these cases, many times they will 'finish' the tequila in one of those fancier barrels.
Patron's corporate HQ is in Las Vegas, but the tequila is not made there. All tequilas have to be bottled in Mexico (and within certain regions) to be considered 'tequila'. It's one of the CRT rules. I can assure you that Patron is bottled in MX, and specifically just outside the town of Atotonilco. Tequila can only be made within particular regions of certain Mexican states. They include 124 municipalities of Jalisco (including the town of Tequila and the majority of modern tequila production), 8 municipalities in Nayarit, 7 municipalities in Guanajuato, 30 municipalities in Michoacan, and 11 municipalities in Tamaulipas.
The law also requires them to be produced, bottled, and inspected in Mexico.

Picked up a bottle of the Fortaleza Blanco today after my bottle of Siete Leguas was gone and, at first taste, I'd have to say I'm extremely disappointed. Nowhere near the flavor of the Siete Leguas and slightly astringent aftertaste? Let it open up a bit more. I never pass judgement on first taste...usually too hot with alcohol to discern flavors. But I will confess I did not like Fortaleza either initially. I didn't understand what all the fuss was about. It is a valley tequila compared to 7L which is made in the highlands. Hornitos is a Sauza product, made with what is known as a difussor...another discussion altogether. There is also Hornitos Black Barrel.
