Scientists have obtained the first image of a black hole, using Event Horizon Telescope observations of the center of the galaxy M87. The image shows a bright ring formed as light bends in the intense gravity around a black hole that is 6.5 billion times more massive than the Sun. Credit: Event Horizon Telescope Collaboration

My alarm went off this morning, you know the kind where it says a couple of headlines with nice music in the background. In my half awaken state I heard about the black hole, jumped up and googled it. Super crazy awesome stuff. This is a huge deal!

Its really cool they can get a photo of it and prove it, but am I the only one that is a bit disappointed in the image? I guess after years of sci-fi movies depicting really cool stuff, this is a little low quality.

The resolution of the picture is very low because it is 53.5 million light years from earth, but we cab still observe it because it’s a VERY large object.

So on all seriousness....objects and light that enters the, or any, black hole goes where?? That is mind blowing to me. That and the magnitude of how big is "big" and how small can things be. Religion aside, there is a part to all of this that we still do not understand....or at least it's just me.

Love this. I watched the Smithsonian special about this and it was like " let's take this 200 million terrabytes of data and see who can make a picture out of it that looks like a black hole...). Easy peasy right?
