Wow. I’m on the list for more info. W an in home trial, how could this not be something to try?

I've always liked the Maggy sound, was considering some 1.6 or 1.7's but didn't pull the trigger. Even the 1.4's sounded better than they had a right to. These are intriguing at what seem to be a very reasonable price point with home trial privileges, I'm hoping they are successful for Magnepan

They really are very tempting at that price point, and if there is the in-home trial, agreed @stretchl it's hard to think it's not worth the try.

You have a money back deal on those EBay 2.6r Maggie’s as well. I would grab those in a heartbeat, as they have a true ribbon tweeter for only 600 bucks.

Just remember they like the power (tube or SS).......

The MMG's I heard tripped my Carver 125x5 amp easily, but were able to work decent with a NAD amp.......

I really enjoyed the MMGs I owned. I sold them with the intent of moving up the chain. I still want to try some of their bigger speakers. The 3.7s are on my wish list.

So how does the home trial work? Do you have to get them at a dealer or will they ship directly?

As a long-time owner of Maggies, this new one is tempting, but not exactly what I was hoping for. I’ve lately been thinking about downsizing my system, knowing that my sons probably won’t want, or likely have space for, a pair of 2’ x 6’ speakers. Also, it might be nice to see out of our living room windows. However, the single biggest improvement with my current speakers over the prior MG 2Bs is the treble, which I attribute to the true ribbon tweeter. I was wondering why Magnepan has not yet offered a smaller model with a shorter version of the ribbon tweeter. Maybe they believe that the quasi ribbon is good enough. And it might be, so it could be worth a try.

I'd even consider that deal but I have no room for a sub and I just love the bottom end my SDA 1C's produce. Very balanced.

What the heck is that on the mantle in that promo photo? Looks like a bottle of some kind of cleaner (of the Windex/Fantastik/Formula 409 kind, I mean)? :p

In (some) seriousness, I wonder whether the size and placement requirements of these new Magneplanars might work at cross-purposes with the aesthetics and philosophy of the modern growth market (e.g., the tiny house and urban lifestyle contingent, who seem to more or less eschew large living spaces and clutter).

Having done advertising photography for about 20 years I can officially attest to the fact that this is a TERRIBLE promo photo. The cleaning solution?? The Monster Cable that goes... nowhere? Looks like they just strung it so the ends are hidden.

Right....I mean the speaker cables look like they are connected to both speakers, running under the slab of the fireplace....no gear connected. WTF is that ? Plus you can see the grate in the fireplace so no gear in there.

The bottle on the mantle looks like it may be a spray plant food thing. Maybe if you spray the speakers, they'll grow up to be bigger Maggies, I dunno.

I read one of the reviews, and the reviewer stated the Mag .7 at 1400 bucks was a better deal.

While I don't doubt the .7 sounds better due to it's larger size, the new Maggie LRS is a steal at the price they offer it. try and beat that with any other speaker in at twice the price, and the only one that can would be another Maggie.

I do like the idea of them being relatively portable, to allow for moving away from a wall for a serious listening session.
