Found some vintage monitors. 36” tall with special tweeters and one woofer and one passive. They are the old model with shellac paper surrounds. No way to test and they want $400.
Any advice or thoughts?

They sold them for $400. I was going to be first in line for Sunday @ half off sale.

Get a set of ESS AMT1B's. ;) About the same price as 400.00 but not so much for 200.
Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.

AMTs are back if you prefer to avoid vintage.
I never thought tremendously highly of the ESS loudspeakers with "Heil" AMTs -- certainly not junk, but not in the pantheon of great loudspeakers of their time relative to my taste.

I truely enjoy my Hornshoppe Great Horned Heils. Ed Schilling did a great job employing the Heils with his horns.
