Still looking to get a new receiver. My old Pioneer was sold 2 weeks ago on Craigslist
I thought I would probably go with the Denon X3400H, but I'm now thinking about having the ability to go 5.1.4 thus 9 channels
What about the Onkyo TX-RZ630?
https://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/onktxrz630/onkyo-tx-rz630-9.2-ch-x-90-watts-a/v-receiver/1.html
No pre-out though................but my speakers are easy to drive (RTiA5 and CSiA4)
What do you think? I would assume the hdmi board issue is old story now?

Or the TX-RZ730?

Yamaha TSR-700 (equivalent to RX V6A)
No surround...yet

Not an Onkyo fan myself. I would personally save a little more and get this:

I’m personally using this one. Only issue is the sheer size, it needs a really deep shelf.

The Denon x440H or the Marantz SR 7011 would also work well.

Like I said, I would up the budget/save for a more robust and capable AVR, but then again I already experienced the frustration of the more budget minded AVR disappointments.

Ran the RTI A5’s/CSI A4 with the Yamaha, and that reciever is worth the extra to hear what Polk offered on a budget. They really don’t need an amp with that AVR.

So Yamaha RX-1060 would be a better choice than the Onkyo TX-RZ730, for $50 more?
However, it seems the Yamaha won't do 5.1.4, even with an external amp......!

Better to have a better receiver with less speakers, than a mediocre receiver with more speakers. Go with the Yamaha...

is the Yamaha THAT better ?
If it's the case, does the same logic applies to the Denon 3400h then?
Meaning if I should forget about 5.1.4 and stick with 5.1.2, which one is better then: Yamaha or Denon?

Deep and profound insight there (and I am not being facetious).

I haven’t heard that model. But the budget receivers without preouts that I have heard sound pretty tiny. The bass isn’t tight, the highs are harsh.

I owned a version of that Yamaha, yes it is excellent. I would go 5.1.2, and this is from someone currently going 6.1.2. I like my denon avr-x4200w a bit better than the Yamaha, main advantage is the auto calibration. But both are really solid.

I agree with rooftop59 the Yamaha Aventage is a nice piece. I have had mine for 2 years and no complaints. Marantz and Denon get kudos around here as well. If you can afford to extend yourself now you will end up saving yourself down the road.

Between Denon and Yamaha, in general, it comes down to preference, all things being equal. Some prefer one sound signature over the other, others calibration proframs, others features, etc.

As far a build quality, they are pretty much equal.

The Yamaha 1060 is probably a closer to the Denon 4400 than it is to the 3400 as far as capabilities are concerned. If you want to be even more confused Marantz and Pioneer are also popular on this forum.

Personally I would buy any of those four before an Onkyo or Sony AVR.

I used to have the exact opposite opinion.

I've only ever had one Yamaha grace my equipment rack and I loved it. ONLY reason I got rid of it is because my wife ok'ed the purchase of a TOTL H/K which was on clearance for about $1000 off MSRP.

I would vote towards the X4400H. I got the X4300H and I love it. I cant imagine the new version of it would be anything less than what i am working with. Once i find the HCA 2205A, i will add the atmos.4 to my 5.1 RTIA set up

    (1) CSI A6
    (2) FXi A6's
    Denon AVR - X4300H
Monster 850i interconnects ( not sure what everyone hates about these - maybe my untrained ears are too innocent to know what's bad)
    Parasound HCA2205A amplifier

If you have a Fry's near you can get the Denon 4500 for $869 with promo code. I got my 4400 on promo code for $800 and love it. I don't know if you can order it online or not maybe call their customer service once you sign up for the email promo codes.
When I was a kid my parents told me to turn it down. Now I'm an adult and my kids tell me to turn it down.
