Both of these guys strove to become Monkees. One succeeded, not sure what ever became of the other guy, for what it's worth.

Rip Peter. Very strange as I was chatting with my bud 2 days ago and he offered me a pair of tickets to see the Monkees play at the casino. I passed on his offer and he tells me that Peter lives on the same street as him. Then sadly I see he passed today.

My older girl cousin was a Monkees NUT when I was a kid, she had every 45 and LP, but I have to admit they had some songs that I like to this day. Some are on the soundtrack to the movie HEAD, which was universally panned, co-written by Jack Nicholson of all people. Bob Dylan once said the song, "Love Is Only Sleeping" was one of his all-time favorites. Don't know who wrote that one. I still think "I'm Not Your Stepping Stone" is a classic and there are some really good punk renditions of that out there. Didn't the Sex Pistols do a classic version? I remember when their album, "Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn, and Jones" came out I didn't understand the title until someone told me it referred to the fact that the individual Monkees had been turned into a corporation, in fact like a law firm. My cousin went to see them tour one time, she also snuck out and saw the Beatles in '64 against her father's strick admonitions. I saw her actually get belted by her father when he found Beatles' singles in their house against his strict prohibition against "Beatle music." RIP Peter. I heard that Steven Stills was really piffed when he didn't get the part.

I remember the tv show. I think the other choices was soap operas or bowling for dollars.

Between The Monkees and destroying the other toy soldier army, I think it’s safe to say a house fire was prevented.

The Monkeys, Batman, I Dream of Jeannie, and Hogan’s Heroes was the afternoon syndicated lineup on channel 9 when I was a kid. RIP Peter, and thanks for the laughs and music.

Wellp -- I watched The Monkees first run, and collected all of their pre-Head albums when they were new. Still have 'em. Never did get the Head soundtrack, nor see the movie.

I would have to be in the right frame of mind, I suspect...

  • I just so happened to watch Head as well as Wild In The Streets (1968) one weekend not that long ago. And yes an altered state of mind is recommended, good times.
