It's a bypass cap. Remove it and do not replace.

Replace the polyswitch with a .5 ohm resistor. The tweeter is too bright otherwise.

The 750 pF silver mica goes away with better film caps. Yes it should be bypassing the mylar caps.

Replace the polyswitch with a 10-12 watt .5ohm resistor. Vishay-Mills are favored.
  • Thank you for the suggestion and I will follow the suggestions!

  • Is it okay to use Ceramic Cement Resistor for replacement of poly switch?

  • I am going to upgrade the tweeter with RD0198-1. Will it be also too bright with jumper wires replacement of poly switch?

Yes. The circuit was designed with the resistance of the polyswitch figured in, which is roughly .5 ohms, so if you don't compensate for that the result will be a hotter top end.

Mills resistors are far better than the blocks.

No need to replace it given the performance of today's caps (I've been advised).

  • From where can I buy the inductors on the crossover? I searched but it is very difficult to get the replacement with exact value and wire gauge.
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks

Not required unless they are damaged. Inductors don't wear out or change spec as they get older (unlike capacitors).
  • Finished the crossover and 4.1 TL. Huge difference in sound! Put sonicaps in tweeter circuit and clarity caps in woofer circuit. I am now really impressed with the sound!

I am geeting a Pioneer SX 1010 this weekend. Anyone has any experience of Polk SDA with this receiver?

Don't you like 70's Marantz , Sansui or Pioneer receivers? Just curious why you like integrated over those biggies?

It's not that I don't appreciate vintage receivers, but you are not going to get the best sound out of them and therefore not the best out of the SDA's.

    F1nut:
Now I am running these with fully restored Marantz 2270 and it sounds awesome. I bought SX 1010 to have little bit more power and it will be eventually restored. I have another pair connected to quite expensive new Denon receiver but I think my Marantz driving these speakers better than Denon though Denon is a receiver not integrated two channel stereo amp. What new integrated you suggest?
