2 ch pre with ht bypass

Help me understand this. I'd like to get better 2ch reproduction but I require to keep ht avr for connections to the TV. Without spending an arm and leg what and which brands should I look for?

Yeah, if the goal is to improve 2 ch performance save you cash. Can find something nice stuff used.
