Modify Magnifi X sub for lower output

I haven't opened the sub yet, but I'm curious as to the best way to simply reduce the overall output of the sub.
I have this soundbar/sub set up at my mom's place, but at the lowest volume setting, the sub is somewhat loud for her liking.
I agree it can get slightly boomy regardless of where I place it, for me...its fine...however for her I'm going to try to reduce the output for more of a fill to compliment the soundbar.
Would a simple resistor on the positive lead work? I dont want to change the slope or crossover characteristics but just the output volume.

The soundbar subwoofer output is turned all the way down and the subwoofer is turned all the way down?

Sorry for late reply.
The only volume control is the "Bass" on the soundbar, which is replicated on the remote. There are no volume or output controls on the sub module itself.
