SVS PB4000

I was surprised not to find a thread about this unit, I guess I will start one. My 2 SVS PB4000 arrived today and after I muscled them into place, I fired up the N-50 to see how musical they are and wow the bass tone was tight and room filling. I didn't have any of the ports closed and it still felt tight and punched hard at low to mid level volume. later tonight I will do a test with U-571 (I did one Wednesday night with the old subs and recorded it to compare). These things are more like furniture with a sub built in them, the sheer size of it makes you think you need 2 to have matching end tables.

Put in "Red Tails" tonight, didn't expect much as it is not bass heavy film. Well I thought wrong, in parts of the movie that there is some heavy LFE it shook the room. My wife said if she needed a butt massage, she knows how to get one now. After some testing last night I dialed the PB-4000 down to -12 (they come -10 from factory) this allows me to be able to turn the volume up to -24 without worrying about the windows in the room. I doubt if I will ever run these at reference level in fear of what may happen to the house. I'm from California and I have been through most of the largest quakes since the 70's and these subs make you feel as a quake is rolling through the room, those that live in California know what I speak of.

    where ar your mains?
  • My mains are placed up on the wall (WAF), wife didn't like my old college floor speakers I had, that was 18yrs ago, so mounted bookies were my only option. My whole setup except the center and subs are mounted. I would like to return to floor models again, but with these subs there is no room left.

That's what I thought. Just didn't want to insult you in case they were some sort of fancy, esoteric speaker you spent lots of money on. :D

Move the sub from under the window to behind the sofa. Love U571 great demo flick.

  • Don't have the room to move the subs anywhere else. I just may have to adjust the output on that one sub, as I don't want to move the stereo rack closer to direct light either. The final plan is to get rid of the rack and move the essential components under the TV, this will give me more room to move the sub away from the window.

nice, but it kind of sounded like my logitech speakers.

THey had these on demo at Fry's, I wish I had the room but my current sub hardly fits.

  • Much less rattle, but I haven't tested a movie yet. I was able to bring the subs to -14, which is much better than the -20 I had to put them at before.
