Aquarius/Let the Sun Shine In

Quite an interesting recollection from the producer of this gem, one Bones Howe: https://www.soundonsound.com/people/classic-tracks-fifth-dimension-aquariuslet-sunshine

It's amazing how some music and songs JUST SOUND RIGHT. There always a back story to BIG HITS.

It's when the stars align that artists make BEAUTIFUL music and songs.

Also, this article above SHOWS just how much talent, skill, experience in all forms, life events sometimes and PERSIVERANCE toward an end product is what it takes to make something that resonates with the masses in a great way.

"Hotel California", "Stairway to Heaven", "Free Bird" and "Dark Side of the Moon album" come to mind. The stars aligned when they were created for sure! The talent and experiences of all the musicians involved is mind boggling! ;)B)

The great music of the 60's and 70's is a big part in why I STILL enjoy listening to all kinds of MUSIC. I'm not limited in what I like except RAP is still hard for me to listen too.

In all seriousness (well, in some seriousness), viewing the planets (Venus, Jupiter, Saturn and Mars, from west to east) has been pretty good lately.

No doubt. We had a great look at Jupiter & four moons and Saturn & the rings the other night. My daughter's fascinated with that planet.

Not causing a ruckus here, @Tony M, but do you really put Free Bird in the same basket as those other three? I've not listened to it critically, as with the others, but it's a live recording. Is the same sort of production values even possible? Thanks.

I'm a Southern Boy, born and raised.

In popularity, I think they all are kind of equal. Studio or live, I wasn't thinking about that aspect, just the thought that most people my age could sing right along with my first picks and tap their foot or shake a leg to the beats, or rock their heads. They all move me.

Don't you have some to add to my list along with Aquarius/let the sun shine in?

"Get happy" made a lot of feet tap. But I wonder if the back story of the making of that was as involved as the making of the really GREAT songs or musical pieces we truly love.

P.S. Heck, I was just thinking; maybe some of the GREATEST and really MEMORABLE songs ever produced, engineered and performed, were created in a weeks time.
    Who knows, maybe.

Very enjoyable reading. Always interesting to discover the inner workings of producers and engineers, as well as the inspired and professional work of all involved in the trenches. Also shows that even with mic's and other equipment, environments, etc. that would now be considered substandard a stunning end-product can be achieved.

@Tony M I gotcha. I was just thinking about the miking and production.

I’m originally from Asheville North Carolina, what about you?

Raised by a Southern Mother in Alexandria Va. for about 17 years. My dad was always away at war being in the Army for 22 years. Then, we moved to Fredericksburg Va. but way out in the country beside the Orange Co. line. There isn't much out there but retirees and farmers who hate the city life for the most of them. It was a culture shock for me at the age of 17. But I made friends quickly and found a neighbor whose Dad and him came down from Alexandria also. We were the same age too. We became best friends and drank on the weekends while cruising the back roads all over. We weren't but 15 min. from the Blue ray Mountain Skyline Drive.

I moved away from my parents home asap and moved into the city of Fredericksburg for about 9 years. I quickly learned to hate the police there and all the city rules. But that's a long story of many stories. :s

I worked for a plumber eventually and we came down to do work for Wilm. NC. city with the water and sewer and storm drain division. It was a BEAUTIFUL little town of 11,000 back in 86. Now it's 250,000 and out-of-control. :o

But I did buy a fixer-upper right in the heart of the New Hanover Co. peninsula. 1/2 mile from one of if not the biggest intersection in this Co. I've been here since 86 and I still love being right in the heart of everthing. I live on a pretty quite dead-end rd. Dixie Ave.

Notice my st. name...DIXIE Ave. LOL.

Now I'm a city Southern boy through and through. I hate driving 20 miles to go to a theater like I had to do 44 years ago.

I'll also say, I didn't know racism still existed until I rode the school bus that first day for 20 miles to get to the high school I had to attend for 6 months to graduate. The high school and the middle school across the street were in a subdued tension all the time.

I was culture shocked to the core. I couldn't understand it. I still hate seeing or hearing about it.

I'm like a Mike Hucklebee. An open minded, educated Southern boy with chivalry. ;)

    Sorry for the rant.

    ROTFLMAO re: Huckabee. Nice one.

I lived in Richmond from 1990 - 2011, with a couple of moves back and forth to Colorado and Miami sprinkled in. My house there was built in 1855 and was a quarter mile from the old Chimbarazo Hospital. Found a Union army ammunition pouch medallion while digging around in my back yard one day.

I miss the hell out of Richmond, and Virginia. God's country.

Central Illinois is too flat and too isolated for my taste, though Champaign-Urbana is an amazing place to raise our daughter.

Richmond is definitely Southern territory. That's cool when you find something historical, isn't it? Civil war stuff was hot property back when I lived around the outer line and I even lived in the heart of Fredericksburg Va. for 7 years too.

I found an Indian arrow head in the back yard of that house out on the Orange County Va. line. It was made from white quartz. A medium size. I found it by a tree trunk just above a ravine with a very small creek in it at the back of my Parents' property.
I wonder if a Cherokee Indian sat down there to rest and dropped it. I think I still have it somewhere. B)

Richmond seemed to be an old town back then but through the years, I came to realize it was a fast growing city. Now a modern City I think.

Fredericksburg Va. , the close perimeter, EXPLODED with growth in the late 70's and 80's. Just like Wilm. NC. has in the past 30 years.

Wilm. NC. in 86 was full of curtious and smiling people where ever you went. The Beach was hardly ever crowded and parking at the beach was free and you could get a close spot if you arrived by 9AM. NOT anymore!!! 1.50 an hour to park there now I think.

and, of course, Please, Please Me (aka Introducing the Beatles in the US) was recorded in all on the same day. You can kind of tell by the way John's voice sounds by the end (Twist and Shout) :)
