Roon in my system

I shoulda listened when Rich told me Roon was a good thing...

The search for the way to handle the digital library has come to an end for now.

I have the oppo udp-203 that Roon found and just uses without anymore interaction from me other than to create a zone. This feeds my Schiit DAC.

The Schiit Yggdrasil has one balanced set of outputs and two single ended. I put some balanced to RCA adapters in the balanced out and can feed the primary, secondary and headphone amp all from one DAC.

I’m down to an iPad and volume control to run all three systems.

This is sweet!

I'm doin a trial now and really like it. It did great with the SBT which surprised me. Though the analog outs on the SBT are sucky through my new integrated. So now I need to upgrade to make Roon worth it. Plus I got Tidal which I totally recommend with Roon (and sucked totally with Squeezebox server).

A couple of my SB's analog outs have failed. I've got one close to the work bench with hammer, chisel and saw to see if I can have some fun... >:)

How do you like that Yggy DAC? Had it long? I'm considering it.

Bought it last year. Love it. Give it a couple months to break in. Months...

    Well worth it though.

I've been Roon-in my system since before Crhistmas and now it is completely Roon'd.

Helps integrate networked components and storage where you can Roon the whole house.

I think I'll be on a slow but sure process of replacing some of the remaining Squeeze devices with newer stuff.

This is just a little too cool... :)

Where do you have the core installed? Needing a PC up and running seems like a step backwards in some respects.

Installed on my normal day to day PC - no issues. Hooked up the 5T drive with the tunes - told Roon to go have fun with it. Streams while I do all my normal day to day stuff.

Ok..it's not a rocket but i7 processor with 32G RAM and a SS boot drive running windows 10 moves along quite well. I use this for some photo editing. No slouch but I spent exactly $0 prepping hardware for this.

Bought my wife a new ipad and I'll use her old one for the chair sitting sessions.

I guess this is becoming the norm, but currently I have music on the NAS which I access via the oppo interface or Bubble uPnp. Bubble also offers tidal access, alas without any MQA capability, which is what I'm after. No PC needed. Mentally, I just can't seem to wrap my head around needing a PC to do what I already do, minus the MQA. I guess this is where a NUC would fit into my mindset.

I looked hard at it and have to agree Dave. If what you are doing works and works well, this is not for you, or me. It is however a cool tool and when the company (if the company) gets more android friendly, I may invest in it. ???????? Time will tell.

Nothing backwards about Roon, at all. You do not have to install the Roon 'core' on a PC. You can install it on your NAS, USB storage, music server or PC where music is at. The core is installed on an SSD drive in my Linux music server.

You can control Roon with a phone, tablet or PC. I control Roon core with a 15" laptop so I don't need a magnifier when I read all the info Roon has about an artist and their associations. I don't need my glasses on when changing to a different artist...

Decided to ramp it up. I have an "older" pc (Win7, 8G RAM, i5 with SS drive as boot and external 5T USB on Jitterbug with the music). Only installed Roon server, set it to auto start roon, then set it to autologon. Running it headless.

    Dedicated Roon Server!

Will add an internal drive and backup the external to it.
