    Cable: Blue jeans or Douglass.

Blue Jeans is less $ but Doug* will discount to Polkies - still more* $ w/the discount.

If you go BJ, have them attach their spade

No. The HDMI does it all.

  • What volume is acceptable for the setup right now? I don't want to blow it up, Is -30dB okay or what's the maximum. I'm just doin bi-wiring straight from the SR5011

Different variables will determine that answer, but as a general rule of thumb, keep the volume below say -20, -15 tops. If testing those numbers, listen carefully, when the sound starts sounding shrill or congested, back off the volume....fast.

Sure, but then keep the volume even lower because you'll be taxing the receiver more by adding more speakers.

  • Let say if I'm looking for an amp right now, what would u guys recommend to run this setup? I don't really have a real budget in mind just yet, 50 movie 50 music... is there a specific brand that fits best??

    Your music/movie ratio is irrelavent.

Parasound 1200 or 1500 would do nicely.

    Perhaps a P'sound 1205 - all channels driven 140 WPC

    A crazier suggestion: 2 P'sound 1000 or 2 Rotel 98X series amps - one amp per tower - 200+ per side!

Yes, B&k amps work well with them too.

Guys I’m working on my first setup so sorry if my question sounds newbish. I bought a Denon AVR-3300w couple of months ago. At the moment it’s not hooked to anything. I was planning to purchase a pair of a9. This is mostly to use as a home theater. Will the denon be enough for these monsters?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Honestly hindsight I wish Polk never created the 9's. They are now sold at bargains and it's hard to resist getting a b!gA$$ speakers at that price. Unfortunately we have seen to many hearts broken when people get them home, plug them into under powered HT AVR receiver and smoke the tweeters/crossovers

    They need there own amp

Buy used, look on Canuck audiomart, 150watt min

You can play them now just don't test them at the highest. When you get an amp the speakers will sound like they bloomed

Careful with movies that have big bass drops till you get an amp....do you have a sub???

The deal is these speakers are large enough to take signals that will dip below 4ohms and AVR's cannot sustain those dips...so something has got to give

I'd most likely leave them in their box until I get them properly AMPed then. I might be wrong but since this is for about 90% home theater use I feel that these A9, even with their downside of being so power hungry, will give me amazing results. At 400$ CAD per towers it leave me room to purchase a 300wpc amp to give them some juice.

    Am I missing something?

For the sub I was planning to get a HSU on next trip to US. The plan is to go for a 5.1 system. A set of RTI A3 for rear and Polk Audio CSI A6 for center.

all an excellent foundation for a great sounding system.

Does your Denon have pre-outs? One day soon I'll have 2 5 channel amps for sale. Either has the "beans" to drive your remaining channels pretty well. But that's for another time.

Bear patience in your journey. I've been on the that road for 38 years, 24 in HT* focus, pretty intense* the last 10. In spite of all that, I know I have another 2-4 challeging years before I reach the Cul-de-sac.

  • Is it okay to power these RTiA9’s with an Emotiva XPA-2 Gen3 amp, then the CSiA6, FXiA6’s & sub with a Yamaha or Marantz AVR? I’m planning my attack on a 5.1 theater system. I would appeciate any input thanks!

Can you ? Sure you can....but is it a good match....debatable. The RTIA9's are a bit bright and forward on top, the Emo amp is also a bit bright on top. Paired together may or may not be too much for your ears.

In my opinion, you need a warmer amp to offset the brightness some, along with some warmer sounding cables. Parasound HCA series of amps, B&k amps, McCormack, Belles, Threshold....just some that may pair up better.

  • Thanks for the responses. I think I’m narrowing it down to the Parasound Halo A23 or Para 2250 v2...does anyone have a preference over the other when juicing the RTIA9s? Also, even though I’m starting with a 5.1 system I see a plethora of 7.2 avr options...any harm in using a 7.2 in the time being? I’d like to have the csia6, fxia6 surrounds & eventually a sub feed off the avr, either a marantz or yamaha.
    Thanks for your help!

I have someone selling barely used Crown XLS 2502 at 5 min drive from home. Really good price too. Would you guys consider it a good match for a pair of A9?

Was looking for a parasound but this Crown seems to be getting good feedbacks as well.

I wouldn't recommend a fan cooled professional amplifier for use with home stereo style hifi speakers.

I agree that adding a pro amp may not sound the best. I would hold off till you can afford at least an Emotiva.
