HT Receiver Recommendation?

I have been a satisfied (from a SQ) Pioneer Elite owner for the past 8 years or so starting out with a 92-txh and then moving to my current SC-67 (which I've had just over 3.5 years. Last night the SC-67 displayed the dreaded UE22 error that units from 2011 and 2012 are apparently prone to. I now have a $2,000 boat anchor in the rack. Having also had to have a custom HDMI board repair done to the 92-txh receiver, I'm seriously considering leaving the Pioneer brand for good. Looking for ideas on a next move. Some things I'm considering:

I don't need Class D amps in a receiver since I use the Sunfire to drive the L/R/C but I do need amplification for the 4 rear channels (and possibly another 4 Atmos channels in the future). I do plan to install Atmos at some point and already have an additional 2 in-ceiling speakers ready to go.

I have dual subs and Pioneer never supported room EQ for a dual sub configuration

I was a Pioneer Elite buyer for 25 years. 9 receivers.
Since the Onkyo merger I have not been happy with their products, And let's not even get started about how they dropped the ball on Blu-ray/UHD.

I am currently running a Pioneer elite SC87 with 4 ATMOS in ceilings in my family room. It works but I have not been happy with it as far as control.
I recently upgraded to Marantz in the master bedroom
    and couldn't be happier.

My plan is to buy the Marantz 7704 when it drops this fall.
I would look at that or possibly the new 7012 receiver. I think that would match well with your Sunfire amp. Also the Sub EQ will work great with your dual subs.

Thanks for the input. There may be hope yet for the receiver. I called Pioneer this morning and they have referred me to a specific program they have in place for addressing this issue, even when the unit is out of warranty. Will post results when I know more.

I've moved up the ladder from Yamaha to Marantz and now I have an Anthem. Anthem for me was a good choice. Not that threes anything wrong with Yamaha or Marantz. Maybe it's the room correct[on, but the Anthem sounds the best to me.

ToTL Yamaha Aventage is where I go next, I think... the CXa-5100 and a separate amp.

I agree, Anthem just for the sound and ARC.

Oooh, that looks nice! Could be my next step too, and I wasn't even thinking about it until you had to go and post that!

If your using the AVR as a pre/pro, i would also go Yamaha. They build a lot of bells and whistles geared towards HT into their Aventage line, and room correction is pretty good.

As far as power to drive your surrounds, just about every manufacturer's higher end units should be capable, so I wouldn't really worry about that side of the equation.

I like my Marantz, Audyssey can be a pain to get dialed in but one completely done it is rather nice.

I will definitely look at Yamaha's if I can't get the Pioneer repaired. The 1070 only supports two channels of Atmos so I will have to look at higher end models.

Seriously look at the CX-a5100. Let's you keep or upgrade amplification, and unless they come up with a format that lets you become the star of the film instead of just watch, it should be pretty much all you could ever need from an HT processor.

It's been a while since I posted this and thought I'd update the thread. I contacted Pioneer and told the CS rep the error code. He groaned and said, "oh that error" then quickly connected me with their repair department. Sent them two pics of the back (SN and MFR date) and they confirmed it was covered, no questions asked. Pioneer shipped me a box with packing materials with a prepaid label for shipping the receiver in for repair. The unit arrived back within a week fixed and working perfectly. Extending a warranty to cover an issue nearly 6 years after manufacture date....Zero cost to me.....Now THAT is solid customer service! Kudo's to Pioneer!
