The thing is my AVR is on its last leg. And I need something new/newer, Mostly movies some music/radio. Probably 90/20. Still rocking an older Panasonic plasma, no smart tv here.

Anything on the market for me?

Looked at he emotiva 700. Or a marantz with all the bells and whistles.

current setup;

Fronts: Monitor 70's
Center: CS2
Rears: Monitor 40's
Sub: PSW505
Receiver: Onkyo TX-SR707 R witch is on the last leg. new in 2010.
Amp: Emotiva UPA-500. 5 Channel Amp.

And DVD oppo is on the list. But for now an AVR or other solution.

Thanks

Stay away fro the modern Onkyo HDMI board problems.

A lot of people go here for their needs. http://www.accessories4less.com/

I got my SR5010 from them and no problems.
When I was a kid my parents told me to turn it down. Now I'm an adult and my kids tell me to turn it down.

Thanks for the reply, that would probably be a solid choice. But I would have to go with the 6010 I believe, since it has the amp pre outs.

Yep I really like marantz. I also really like my Yamaha, and the same website has some newer interations. Comparable denon would also be a solid choice.

Wow, someone who really does give 110%!!!
In that case, you'll need an AVR that goes to 11! :D

I'm prolly going to get yelled at for this, but, WHY do you think your rcvr is about to go south?
Is this particular model known to die after xx months/ years of service?

The SR5010 does have pre-out. I was not recommending it, I was just saying that is what I got from A4L and like it a lot. I was going to get a new Onkyo but the nice people on this forum pointed me in the right direction.

I am not totally sure on what models the HDMI problem started, My 626 is still working good. I don't have the pass through turned on. A friend just replace his 636 due to it burning out the HDMI board for the 2nd time. I know of 3 other people first hand that have had their HDMI boards fry on their Onkyo's. Google it, not just a random problem.

I've been waiting for a Onkyo/Pioneer Receiver to come out. Something that both companies add some flavor.

    That's neither here nor there.
Volkswagen owns: Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, and Porsche that doesn't mean a Passat has anything in common with either.
Oh, Listen here mister. We got no way of understandin' this world. But we got as much sense of this bird flyin in the sky. Now there is a lot that bird don't know, but it don't change the fact that the world is happening to him all the same. My TV is older (about 10 years) but I upgraded to a gently used Denon (thanks Phil). The more modern features bring a smile to my face. Audyssey, Airplay, Pandora and the ability to control everything from my iPhone. Good luck with your new purchase. You may just forget about the old TV!
