Decorative absorption?

My new house theater/listening room is empty right now. The room is roughly 13.5' wide by 19.5 deep with a ceiling that slopes from 8' in front (where I am putting heavy drapes over the windows) to 17' or so in the rear.The floor is hardwood laminate where I have one area rug so far. The room is boomy as hell. My ol lady agreed that I can put some absorption panels on the side walls and ceiling if need be but she wants them to be "pretty" or something like that. Anyway, I got this idea of buying canvases, ya know the blank canvas stretched over wood frames(with the void in back stuffed with something appropriate) that you oil paint on and figuring out how to get prints to stick on them or actual acoustic panels that I could mount prints on. If anyone has ideas or experience let me know.

something like these maybe?

Not necessarily those precise designs -- maybe they have "Dogs Playing Poster" and "Elvis", who knows?

Some come with images or you can have your own printed on them. Not cheap, but not outrageous either"Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. @afterburnt,
You can have giclée prints on canvas of virtually any classic painting or photograph that is outside copyright protection. You and your wife should be able to find a lot of good art work to have reprinted and stretched on stretchers of your choice. When well done, giclées look very like original oils.
There is a printshop in New Hope, PA, that does a first class job of this process and has access to a very wide range of art work to reprint.
If you're interested, I can get you the name of the shop.Family Room, Innuos Statement streamer with Morrow Audios USB cable to DirectStream DAC w/Bridge II; AQ Sky XLRs, McIntosh MC 220 Tube Pre; AQ Sky XLRs, CAT 600.2 Dualmono Amp, Morrow SP7 Speaker Cables, SDA SRS 1.2tls (RD0198s, Dreadnought, Black Hole 5, Acousta-Stuf, Dynamat Extreme, JBWeld. Thanks for all of the suggestions but they are a bit too expensive. Does anyone think that my idea of canvases stuffed with these https://www.lowes.com/pd/USG-Ceilings-8-Pack-White-Fissured-5-8-in-Drop-Acoustic-Panel-Ceiling-Tiles-Common-48-in-x-24-in-Actual-47-75-in-x-23-75-in/3656662?cm_mmc=SCE_PLA-_-LumberAndBuildingMaterials-_-SuspendedCeilings-_-3656662:USG_Ceilings&CAWELAID=&kpid=3656662&CAGPSPN=pla&store_code=1510&k_clickID=831f6c06-31ac-4b5b-b341-3c3a8c8d779c would be effective?
@Moose68Bash yes if it's not too much trouble I would like to call them and see what they can do. -

Can any fabric material be used to cover the panels? From time to time I will have one of my photos printed on art canvas then tacked to a frame just like a painting. If I skipped the wood frame could I then wrap the panel with the canvas?
If the above would work how should one go about securing the canvas to the panel.

@afterburnt,
We're currently not at home, and the contact information is on my wife's computer, which is at home. I'll send it to you when we return on Tuesday.Family Room, Innuos Statement streamer with Morrow Audios USB cable to DirectStream DAC w/Bridge II; AQ Sky XLRs, McIntosh MC 220 Tube Pre; AQ Sky XLRs, CAT 600.2 Dualmono Amp, Morrow SP7 Speaker Cables, SDA SRS 1.2tls (RD0198s, Dreadnought, Black Hole 5, Acousta-Stuf, Dynamat Extreme, JBWeld. Here's what I made to treat one of my walls. It's a 2x3 frame with acoustic foam underneath a Mcintosh beachtowel. Now if I could only find something like that from Polk Audio -
Great looking panel.
Does the wood frame have any kind of impact on the effect of the panel? Does the wood reflect sound waves? -

Thanx; I'm not sure what effect the woodframe has but the panel has helped tame some of the liveliness in the room. I'd like to add a couple more but I'm not thrilled with the idea of having more beachtowel meters. It's tough finding something suitable (audio related) for that size panel. -
@motorstereo that's a towel?

Doubtful. Cutting corners rarely works. I get building your own, but use the correct materials..........what you linked to ain't it.

Yes it's a beach towel that I ordered from Mcintosh's site ($45) -
@heiney9 thank man that is what I need to know. I don't want to waste time on something that is not going to work. Do you have any suggestions on raw panels that are the right material for the job that I can dress up the way that I want?

Love the MC panel!
As long as air can pass through the fabric it is good to go and yes the wood will reflect sound waves but it looks great!
Most store bought panels have the fabric wrapped around the wooden frame so no better for sound absorption.Mojo Audio Illuminati v3>>Quantum Byte w/LMS>>Rpi/PiCoreplayer>> Starlight 7 USB >> Mojo Audio Mystique v2 SE>>ModWright SWL 9.0 SE Signature>>Hafler DH-500 Amp+ (Musical Concepts Fully Modded)>>

Yes, I used a similar material. What speakers are causing the boomy sound? Rear ported?
Built a frame used 2" absorption to keep the rear ported Dyn's from booming off the concrete hotel room walls and tighten the bass at LSAF 2013...it worked. I still use them in my home.

@afterburnt,
Here is the link to Encore Editions, the firm through which my wife has had several images of famous paintings printed as giclées:

Giclées can be made from any photo or image, printed on canvas, and stretched on wooden stretchers, as one does with oil paintings. They are so "good" that many people cannot distinguish them from the real paintings.
This company does very nice work and uses a higher quality canvas and printing process. They will ship throughout the United States.
Sounds like you have, perhaps, moved beyond this as a possibility, but I promised to send this information to you and I wanted you to have it. If your wife has favorite pieces of art, this might be a good thing to consider.

^^^^^^Thanks; I thought it was better looking than those blocks and corner bass traps that to me look like hell. Even though I'm sure they're more effective I wasn't willing to put up with the eyesore. I've ordered some different towels and I'm going to make a couple more soon. One is an American flag and the other one is a NE Patriots towel. Now if only Polk had something in a 30x60'' beach towel or some heavy drapery material for the windows.
-
I made a couple more. These things now make a difference taming some of the echos I had. Next thing is to try an overstuffed animal or 2 in the corners. I know I need corner bass traps but those things have a major case of the uglies to.

Well, I have some sofas in the room and a rug but couldn't get my PC to play my music so I checked it out with some "various artist" CD's that my ol lady had with her. Suffice to say that the combo of low-fi and big boomy room sounded like crap. It is more the rooms fault that the gear, though. Oh and I got the drapes up covering the windows.
