I'm a little confused, are Sprint customers going to get Tidal for free? Are they going to get exclusive content that "regular" Tidal subscribers aren't going to get? That's what the article makes it sound like.

Yeah, pretty vague. Additional content to just Sprint-and-Tidal customers is how I read it. But no mention of cash, stock, board seats. Unless/until I see evidence to the contrary, I'll chalk it up to one company desperate for market share and another for cash.

So apparently the deal was a third for $200mil. Jay Z bought for $56 million in 2015, so looks like a good grab for him and possibly the artist co-owners.

Speculation that Sprint may not charge for data when listening to Tidal. That might actually be a good move for both, similar to AT&T/DirecTV streaming. But I don't see the exclusive music thing going very far to help either. Big name artists won't want to restrict their content to just Sprint; and Tidal wouldn't want that either. Just some minor promo imo.

Right? Nobody is going to switch to Sprint from whatever they have just for exclusive content. It's a move that doesn't make any sense from the artists prospective unless Sprint is going to pay them to do it.
TIDAL and its artists will make exclusive content that will only be available to current and new Sprint customers.

Actually a good thing simply because Tidal needed and infusion of cash to keep moving forward. The "exclusive content" has always been Tidal's claim and platform, though they did not even keep thier owner's content exclusive for more than a few months. With MQA finally streaming on Tidal I am glad they have found a partner to keep them viable.

Also speculation that Softbank wants to grab Japanese market share before Spotify and Apple Music get firmly established. If so, this would be a very useful deal for long-term viability.

I just heard a pin drop.

LOL.....just tryin' to hold back the excitement. You know.....that excitement when they come out with something that says you need to buy more gear to accommodate it. Sprint buying a stake just means Tidal isn't doing as well as it portrays. Big companies love gobbling up market share though, that's their buzz word.

I'm not sure how this plays out for Sprint or Tidal in the long run. I think that "exclusive content" labels appeal is wearing off some.

I think that Sprint simply needed to park that "Nascar" money somewhere else this year.....
