I purchased a PB-1000 this past spring (see thread: http://forum.polkaudio.com/discussion/172358/thank-you-for-shopping-with-svs#latest) and I absolutely love it. I considered the PB-2000, but the PB-1000 is perfect for our theater room. The outlet pricing was phenomenal, too ($450).

    Enjoy!

Awesome man, glad to hear! You're running only one sub, right? Not two?

Keep in mind, SVS has a great return/upgrade policy. Try the 1000 series, and if you think you need more, then go for a second or try a bigger one.

I think if you're going with a ported SVS, you might like the cylinder design.

I just got off the phone with my local dealer and he was recommending the sealed over the ported. I told him my main environment was 85% movies and 15% music. I'm a little confused because I thought ported was better suited for movies.

    I'm going to demo the SB/PB 1000, 2000 and PC-2000 tomorrow morning.

Some just prefer one over the other in either music or HT application. Nothing carved in stone. Compare the specs on the pb and sb 1000's, and you'll see the ported goes a little lower.

If I can chime in here since I just went through a similar process.
    1) your room size is firmly in the medium size room where one PB1000 can work but 2 would be better.
    2) if you go with one PB2000 it's rated as 3000 cube room to 5000 cube room by audioholics but probably barely. It would ofcourse have more than enough for your room.
    3) the PC2000 is pretty much the same as the pb2000 in performance but has a different format factor plus it comes with sound path isolation feet.

I have a similar sized room as you...maybe a little bigger. My decision to go with the pb2000 over the pb1000 was to go with the best sub I can afford that won't be over budget and not super over kill. I felt the pb1000 would be stretched to its limits by itself but could be okay with duals. But duals was too expensive so I had to eliminate that option.

I just got the pb2000 yesterday and I'm happy with it. In fact I decided to run it as a dual with my psw125 and the work very well. I probably won't buy another pb2000 as the bass in my room is pretty smooth and deep.

Music sounds good but to be clear most songs don't go below 30hz so I don't notice much difference when I had just the one psw125. But movies is 80% of my use and benefits greatly with deeper bass I have never heard before.
    Hope my experience helps you.

Thank you guys so much for your input! So general consensus is - ported subs are simply better for home theater use.

I'll ride with that. Off to bed, then off to the local shop for some listening! Thanks again!

I think I'm going to order the two PB-1000s' and the one PB-2000 and see which plays better with my system. Start from there. I have friends that use SVS subs and can swear up and down on them and hail them as the best things since sliced bread.
In terms of performance, there is not much bad that anyone can say about SVS products. The product speaks for itself and the customer service gets great feedback.

Having said that, they are not the only good products to choose from. At $799 each /$1500 pair SHIPPED, the 12" PB-2000 is a nice product.

    These are great products also:
    - 15" VTF-15H MK2 currently on sale $869 each + $148 S&H
    - 12" Outlaw Ultra-X12's for $1049 a pair SHIPPED!
    - 12" sealed SVS SB12-NSD $399 each / $1596 total SHIPPED for quad subs!
    - 18" DIY Dayton Ultimax sub/cabinet bundles for $399 each / $798 pair SHIPPED! powered by a POWERFUL Crown, Behringer, or other amp~$200-$350, and a MiniDSP unit & mic for room correction~$225.
    - others....

As far as sealed vs. ported? SVS spells it all out for you: https://www.svsound.com/pages/faqs

Ported makes the most sense for HT for many...but not all. You get a ton of output for the given sized driver. You have to go with what works. For me, sealed 15's work for my taste and available space in the room.

So I went to the shop and just came home with an SB-2000. I also demoed the PB-2000 and PC-2000 which were ported. To me, the ported did get a tad louder and maybe a tad deeper, but to my ears it just started to sound unpleasant once it got that low and deep; whereas the sealed/SB-2000 was tight, punchy and clean the entire way through. Thoroughly enjoyed listening to the SB-2000.

I also checked out Def Tech and B&W subs while I was there; wasn't impressed. Didn't compare to the SVS. Drooled a bit over the PB-16 Ultra but if I came home with that I'd be signing divorce papers.

Going to get it setup, run another speaker calibration and let you guys know how it goes! Thank you everyone again for your help!

That's the best thing you could have done, is to go listen for yourself.

While I've heard MANY ported subs from car audio, home audio, pro audio, studio, etc. that sounded awesome and delivered the goods. I've always loved the sound of a sealed 12"-15" sub for music and movies in a dual purpose system.

Congrats, give it time to break in.

When I first started playing my NSD-SB12 I had to wonder if it was working because it was so subtle while playing music which is what I started it out on. But after 3 action movies on the weekend, it is opening up very nicely. It goes deep and low with an unexpected rumble when least expected.

    Enjoy.

Yes, got to break them in. Louis from Omega Speakers told me those new drivers need stretching & recommended using music or good Movie like Cat said, with a lot of lower bass to to work those drivers and give them a good work out.

Thank you everyone! I've calibrated it and played a movie or two. Absolutely blown away vs. what my Velodyne DPS-10 could produce.

    HOWEVER.....

I've noticed during one or two real deep, extended bassy scenes, I heard a faint vibration/rattle in the box itself. I'm hoping it will pass, needs to be broken in or whatever, but it did bother me after I heard it.

Other than that, I'm literally amazed with this thing. I'm looking to pickup a second one in the coming months but just this one is amazing.

A rattle is not something likely to go away with break in. Maybe get closer to the box and try to isolate if it's coming from the driver itself or the amplifier (or maybe the grill or something inconsequential)

Yea, unless I misunderstood him but I swear he said he could feel and hear it in his house. He might have been calling for the neighbor next door because he said they were trying to put their baby to sleep too. I just also switched to Polk LSIM 707/706c/703 5.2 setup. I had my Denon's volume at 75. With my Polk RTi A9/CSI/FXI a6 setup with the 2 subs I could hear the sound some at the street. So who knows

So quick update on this - I purchased an additional SB-2000 and wow....the difference goes beyond night and day. Absolutely crushing bass, clean, tight and punchy. My system has never sounded better than it does now.

Glad you picked up two of the SB2000's!

Nothing like a good sealed sub! Even for HT use, I was never impressed with ported subs. I just like the speed and accuracy of sealed.

I would like to go dual SB2000's in my HT, but the wife would kill me at this point.

With my old Velodyne SPL 1000's, I had duals at one point and I loved it.

But when I condensed for a short period, I sold off down to one, it was a mistake.

Is the SB-1000 the descendent of the SB12-NSD?

Spent a bunch of time hunting down reviews - seem to review nearly the same if not identically.

Thnx in advance for your know how.
