Hey Dharding... I'm a trumpet player too. FYI.
    I've got two horns. Bach #37 & a Holton MF307 Large Bore.

I like the MF horn better than the Bach. But, that's another story.

    I concur, what a crock.

If I want something on Ebay, I will bid....period. I don't give a crap whether it's Matthew Polk in the high bidder slot. IT'S EBAY!

I have been sniped and outbid before, that's just the way it goes. I actually was sniped by Tour2Ma, whose name is different on Ebay....but I'm not calling him cutthroat or saying his attitude sucks. I don't even recall thinking about it the next day actually, who cares.

Dan - I bet you don't know who you outbid FROM HERE, for a couple of those items you currently own, do you? I bet I do.

Turn on your Polk's and enjoy, tomorrow the sun will rise, and none of this crap will matter.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

    I agree wholeheartedly!!

I've been outbid several times within the last minutes of an auction, probably by people on this forum. If that hadn't happened, then I wouldn't be enjoying the system I have today because something better came along for me.

I'm going home tonight to listen to my Polks and I know I'll be happy(sign or no sign).

Dan, sorry, but I don't have a lot of tolerance for those that relish in victim mode and act like the world's to blame for stuff like this. After your 2nd or 3rd comment about how bad of a group of people we are (the jist of your comment), you get the above response..........if there's one thing you can accuse me of, it's consistency.....ask those on the list how I react when they persist with their whining.

Well, I've had about all of this that I can stand, seriously.

dharding, jeezuz, get a hold of yourself.

One, no one knew that you were the high bidder on the sign.

Two, even if we did, what does it matter? It's ebay.

Three, not to slight contribution but 60 posts doesn't exactly make you a forum regular. Far as Russ goes, he was bidding on the sign to GIVE away. I see that you've got quite a collection of Polks, which is cool but what have YOU done to spread the Polk love? Russ has GIVEN away, LITERALLY and figuratively, Polk speakers so that people can enjoy the Polk sound at a bare minimum of expense. Ask around and see how many people have gotten a great deal at Russ's expense. So, he's supposed to pass on something just so you can continue to get YOUR hoard on?

Your attitude is selfish and it sucks.

I understand both sides of this argument. I agree that Polkie's shouldn't bid against each other for normal Ebay auctions. If there is a pair of speakers listed that are common, we should try to stay away from the auction if other Polkies are interested and post they are bidding. . This is a rare item and cannot be found somewhere else. In this case, I believe it is fair game.

    I agree completely, Jeff.

Were it a pair of SRS's or some such, sure, let's coordinate efforts and so forth but there is a limit. We can't be doing this for every item on ebay, you know??

Dam, and too think that this past weekend everybody loved everybody.....
I am stuck between where I stand on the bid or not with another member for me I would not bid after a members bid and would like to have the same in return but I most surely would not get upset if I lost the auction. FWIW my e-bay name is "ramguns".

    My 2 cents

Have we ever laid off knowing another CP'er has bid.. Absolutely. Often it makes sense because the same is sure to come up again, the current one is in the other guy's backyard, he needs it more than me, etc. Not the case here...

On a rarity nobody has seen before, and may possibly never see again, I have no issue with everyman for himself. Each places their own value on this kind of memorabilia... That said...

What I propose here is we do more than simply agree not to compete... let's pool.

Russ, you're good to go to $70.50 cause I will kick in up to $20 to put this little jewel where it belongs... in the family...

As you said it can be displayed at "Fests" and collect POLK dignitary autographs (hell, we can even send it to HQ) and between Fests it can be shared around for contributors to display. Kind of a time share deal...

So I say state your max and we then win the SOB and divvy up the cost equally, up to each contributors max... Dan, feel free to join in...

What say ye, gentlemen? Anybody else in?

And, Russ, if you don't want to take the point on this, I'll be happy to...

EDIT: My eBay name is ubetterubetterubet...

I'm happy to run with it if you guys are.

So for now, I'm in for $50.50, Tour is in for $20, that's a 70.50 bid I'll place towards the end of auction.

    Cheers,
    Russ

I'm NOT demeaning the contributions of anyone. I'm just pointing out the fact that 60-odd posts in three years doesn't exactly make you a fixture of the forum. You choose not to participate, largely. That's fine, I've no problem with that.

It's sort of like Audiokarma. I post there occaisonally, I think it would be selfish of me to jump on that board and get pissy about them outbidding me on something on ebay. I just wouldn't do it. It's not fair to them, I'm not a big part of that board. I think that you are just having a tantrum because you want something and we aren't rolling over for you. Sorry, that's just the way it is.

For the record, I'm serious about keeping this in the family. I'm in for 50 over amulford's contribution.

I don't post much but found this thread interesting. I have been to numerous auctions where EVERYONE knew each other very well and this didn't stop anyone from bidding. No one should ever be ashamed of wanting something that they can pay for and no one should hold any ill will against other bidders.

The idea to keep the total offline is good. Never bid from emotion, which is what usually happens at the final minutes before closure. (It reminds me of buck fever while hunting.) Determine the absolute maximum you will pay and wait until a minute or two before closure to submit the max. Then sit back and wait. (I turn off browser graphics and keep hitting the refresh button to watch the other bids as they fly in.) Unless someone put in a higher bid earlier, you will see other bidders race to catch up to the automatic bids that Ebay places on your behalf. If things work out, time runs out before they get in a bid that beats your maximum, and you get it at the lowest price that beat anyone else. I am still somewhat new to Ebay, but I frequently beat out buyers with 3-digit plus ratings, at prices that I am comfortable with.

BTW - I have no interest in this great sign and will not bid.

EDIT: This is looking "baggish"... maybe instead of passing it around, we should cut it up into pieces proportional to the contributions and send them to the backers... (Ducks for cover...):p
