Good set of sealed cans cheap?

I have some Sennheiser HD 558 but I want some sealed to tune everything out. I had some Audio Technica ATH M 30 that seemed ok but gave them to my kid before I really tried them out. Any suggestions?

How about these guys? They haven't changed the design at all I think, they still look like a pair of headphones straight out of the 60's.

Do you have small ears? Honestly I really like the sound of my sennheiser momentums that I am selling in the FM, and I know so do several other guys on the forum do as well, but I just can't wear them more than about 1-2 hours without hurting my ears. Since I basically sit at a computer, research, read, and write all day, I need somethign can wear longer. But I really wish they would work, because I like how they sound and they are closed back and more portable than my current cans. Anyway they might suit you...

I've used Sony "DJ" style closed back headphones for many years and been happy with them for the purpose. The MDR7506 and MDRV6 are two current examples that have been on the market for quite a while and still sell well. I'd go with the 7506. The similar Audio Technica models up through the M40X also look like acceptable knock offs. The M50X would be a step up, but are a bit above $100.

Emlyn I was looking at the M40x since I like the M30x ok for what I got to know of them. Would you give the edge to the Sonys? They are ten bucks cheaper but that doesn't make or break me since I can't afford either in the first place lol

The ones in my price range don't seem to have as good Amazon reviews as the above mentioned.

Realizing full well that no on asked my opinion :-P

The problem I've always had with the Koss Pro 4AA and their kin is that sense of having a vise squeezing one's head when wearing them. They sound OK but dang are they uncomfortable.

Gotta have a tight seal for the 10Hz bass! B) I have a smallish head so it probably wouldn't be as bad for me.

    One of the Amazon reviews.
    NEGATIVES:

    1) Weight (about 3 or 4 times as heavy as most contemporary studio-reference headphones)

    2) Tight headband - as noted, the fit is fatiguing if your 'hat size' is greater than 7.

    3) The coiled cord is extremely difficult to replace (it's actually less expensive to replace the entire set of headphones of you can get a good discount).

    POSITIVES:

    1) AUDIO FIDELITY. Unless you want to spend at least $300 for a set of headphones, the sound quality and fidelity of the Pro-4AA's is almost impossible to beat.

    2) VALUE. As noted above, for the price you pay, these are vastly superior to any other headphones that are comparably priced.

    3) DURABLE. My first pair lasted 30 years. They were dropped and knocked around, and finally gave out when (It think) a voltage spike surged in the left earphone, fusing a coil.

    4) ISOLATION. THe paddded earphones block out external sound very well.

Agreed that at that price point they are very good, but as with all things audio, stretch your budget a bit and you can do better. The momentums are a LOT better, just wish they were bigger...

M50s can be had at sale prices. They're a nice closed back with a mild V shape sound curve. Somewhat boosted highs and lows, slightly recessed mids, decent sound stage. I own a pair. I also have a pair of the studio Sonys I bought for my daughter who is currently recording a CD with her college acapella group in Rochester, NY., fingers crossed (phenomenal pipes!).

The Sonys are more neutral than the Audio Technica ATH M50xs if you're looking for that. This also applies to the Sennheiser HD 280s (their studio standards) which have less bass than the Sonys (to my ears).

The AKG K240s are a semi-open back that do not leak that much. And are also worth a look.

These cans make up the go to for studio: Sony 7506, AKG K240, Senn. HD 280, Audio Technica ATH M50x(also the lower 40s which are more neutral). Almost all available in your price range. If you have a Guitar Center in your area you might be able to try most of these out?

There are LOTS and I mean LOTS of other cans in that sweet spot ($100). You should check out innerfidelity.com and Tyll H.'s reviews! And now, where is that "guy" with the Big Head? As if we didn't know! When mine gets too big I go to the gym and watch my students lift what I no longer can-mortality, it's so very humbling! lol

    WOW.

I also read recently that rats hate the smell of peppermint. So this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00016QTXA/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_2?pf_rd_p=1944687722&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B00028O80I&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=Q1GV5Y73NJ2EWZFT7GE9 might be a better smelling option...

Roof of course that was not a serious post they don't get in my house but they do get under the hood of my car. It does not help that I only drive it every other week. Regarding the peppermint, I don't know if it is "peppermint" that I have growing, it's some kind of mint. I have a flower bed full of the stuff. I saw my cats chase a rat out of it once. I guess that rat wasn't all that deterred. This has been an ongoing battle since I moved here. I am back in a canyon in the mountains and my biggest problems are all the damned critters out here, bobcats, raccoons, skunks, rattle snakes etc. Country living sucks! The previous wire bill was $500!

I know I know, pretty funny.

But seriously, have you smelled fresh mint compared to peppermint soap or spray? Quite different. The smell of fresh mint is very subtle (but excellent muddled in a mojito mmmm...). The smell of that soap is robust, just saying it might be worth a try and help you avoid predator piss lol...

Linday Lohan seems to be starting up her own branded cans. Probably trying to compete with Dr. Dre. Here's a side shot. Looks like solid 50mm drivers.

I'm gonna suggest a set of comfy fun cans. Beyerdynamic DT-770s.

Easy to drive off a phone, get very loud, can wear them 12 hours straight (with glasses to boot) without sweaty ears or pain from clamp force.

V shaped sonic sound but for me at work while coding or doing work they are GREAT. Not the best for making sure others don't hear your music but not the worst either.

Pads can be replaced as well which is quite nice.
