I had the pleasure of hosting a wedding at my house for my sister in-law. Mainly because one night my wife had a few too many and said, "Why not have it at our house ?"
Yeeeaaah right. We had previously agreed to no big blow outs because we are going to Italy soon and saved cash is golden. So let me paint the picture, a big 20 by 30 tent, 3 industrial sized fans because it was 95 and humid. Food was half catered and half home made, fogged the yard for bugs early that day, stained the deck earlier in the week which took 33 hours of staining and 10 hours power washing. Cleaned the carpets, washed down walls and baseboards, you guys know the routine. Flowers were all bought in bulk and arranged by one of my nieces who made table arrangements, runners, and other various arrangements. I even bought more hanging baskets to make the yard look even better for pics.
55 people....and 30 minutes before serving dinner.....we had a Texas style rain storm. Some braved the tent, then it was a mass exodus inside the house which I didn't want. After getting pissed at all the spilled whole cups of coffee on my carpet, wine....food, I said screw it. My young mid 20's nieces and nephews were outside dancing in the rain with my sonos under one umbrella to keep it dry and it was cranked. So I joined in the fun.....and it was fun. Then they all wanted to come inside and dry off. Every towel in the house was used, gave out some clothes for some to change into....and now the carpet is soaked in water also.
I knew the carpet was going to get trashed, but not that bad. I also had 2 garbage cans under the tent....you think anyone used them ? Nope.....next morning all their garbage was left on the tables. Man, people are slobs. Yeah it was fun and all, but never again. We had a game plan for rain, and rain was forecast, but none of the women wanted to enact that plan because......everything was set up the way they wanted it. There are times when dealing with women as a group you just throw your hands up and go whatever.....and reserve the right to say "told ya so" afterwards. Can I get a witness to that ?
My sister in-law is lucky I like her.....

You're a good man, Tony. I work weddings as part of my career so I know what that mess can be like.
Even though it was a PITA, I'm sure it was worth it.
Do you, by chance, have any video of your rain dancing??

I'm sure video is out there, my nieces and nephews are all about social media and they certainly were taking video and pics. One person went to set their drink on top of my speakers, a women of course, and I was watching for that reason too. I gave her a look and waved my finger at her. She smiled and mouthed OK to me. I think the men got it, none went near the gear.
Funny thing too, not a soul went upstairs or even out on the deck, which I put many hours into to look good for the occasion. I've never had a party were people didn't congregate on the deck or in the kitchen.
I'm just a tad taken back, the bathrooms needed constant upkeep as the soap and water was all over the granite counters/floor. I mean...this is someone's home, not a banquet hall. I guess I shouldn't gripe....the wife and I opened ourselves to it and accepted what could happen.HT SYSTEM-

Well, when she need more plates/silverware she kicks the old one to the curb and gets a new one so she gets more stuff

Not that it needs to reiterated, but you're a saint, Tony. I couldn't handle that much chaos in my home.
Heck my 15 month old puts me on edge with the damage she can cause. -
Many of us have been down that road. On the third myself. First one didn't cost much at all, second killed me. If this one goes in the toilet I'm staying single and just living in sin. Knock on wood though, I have a good one this time around. You know that saying, you gotta kiss a few frogs.....well, works for both men and women.
I any event, tents gone, tables and chairs picked up and things are back to normal. I think the dog is still stuffed as I caught her making the rounds under the tent for handouts. I think between the roast beef, chicken, stuffed shells, sausage and meatballs.....she made out like a bandit.HT SYSTEM-

12 days....fly into Rome, spend some time there, then drive threw Tuscany up to Florence. Visit with some family just North of Florence, then shoot over to Cinque Terra, then across to Portofino and train it back to Rome.
I want to take my time driving threw Tuscany, lots of vineyards and little towns I want to stop in.HT SYSTEM-

Sounds like a good time had and a good time coming up Tony, and taking time to stop is the only way IMHO to enjoy the area and the wine...
I’m going someday as my youngest been wanting to go for the last couple of years I told her graduate University and we will go..

The wife and I have been planning this trip for 4 years. We didn't want to worry about money, what we did/bought, stayed at, drank or ate.....and we wanted to take our time and not hurry to try and see everything. You simply can't, so we pinpointed important stuff to each of us and the rest can wait for the next trip.
Getting back to this wedding ordeal, I need some opinions. Mainly because some info just reached my ears. My brother in-law informed me as he was holding an umbrella escorting one of the grooms relatives to the house, female....she says to him, "Thank you, didn't want to get my gun wet in my purse".
Now, I'm all for gun rights and concealed carry, but how about some frickin' common sense here. You don't bring a gun to someones house and not tell them. I don't live in the city, drive by's don't happen where I live and certainly no terrorist is threating to shoot up Algonquin Illinois. Leave the sucker in the car. I'm not comfortable with guns around hard liquor drinking people, know what I'm sayin' ?
Should I say something to the groom ? I think so, as does the wife. What say you guys ?HT SYSTEM-

I get your point, but if it is legal, I would mention your feeling lightly or just make it known to ALL...
"Please leave your firearms in the car, or favorably at home when coming to our house"
I will agree that parties and weapons should not go together
I selectively carry my gun pending where I'm going
of course I make sure I make all necessary stops to or from so I'm not detoured for gas or other necessities in the wrong parts of town.2-channel: Modwright KWI-200 Integrated, Dynaudio C1-II Signatures

I guess the first question is, "Will she be coming back to the house anytime soon?"
At this point, the deed has been done, and bringing it up without a practical purpose (she will be back, and you are uncomfortable with her carrying in your abode) may just dredge up make the groom feel bad or that you are attacking his friends.
There are always three reasons, at least, to say something in these scenarios.
1. To make someone else feel better.
2. To prevent an issue in the future.
3. To make yourself feel better.
#1 applies if your wife has her mind made up that you need to say something. #2 may apply, and #3 surely applies. The problem is, if only #3 applies you may offend the groom, who is new to the family.
That said, I think you are in the right to feel weird about it. I would have precisely the same reaction. -
Thing is, I shouldn't have to make common sense statements to all. Should I also put up signs to wipe your butt and flush the toilet ? Carrying in public, I get it....but this is a private party and I should have been informed. They should have had the common sense to at least ask if it was ok.
To me anyway, she was too eager to tell others she was carrying and should have either asked for permission to bring it on my property or stfu. If she told one person, chances are she told others, who may not be up to snuff. With hard booze around, situations can escalate fast, and if some d-bag knows she has one in her purse he can easily grab it. This is how crap happens....it's not intentional, but the recipe is there for it to happen. I like to keep that recipe broken around my family, kids/grandkids when things are under my roof and control.HT SYSTEM-
