Why does Mp3 format add a gap between songs?

I am new to Jriver.
I ripped cds to wave files and everything is correct but when I convert them to Mp3 I get a gap. Very annoying with music like DSOTM.

You need a player that does gapless. There are very few players that do.

Exact Audio Copy (EAC) can rip to a single FLAC file, possibly to mp3. Problem would be that you can't skip to the next song very easily

I am not a fan of Mp3 anyway. The only reason I have them is to play them in my car. I am planning to buy a new head end that will play wave and flac. Until then I won't worry about the gaps.

EAC will rip a CD as one track in MP3 format. It's not hard to do... I can't remember how to do it off the top of my head without the software in front of me.

Most digital ripping software will give you the option of adding gaps between tracks or not. I almost always have the feature turned off since I want exact duplicates of the original CDs.

That's why you have a "cue sheet" file.
