Picked up this 1992 vintage Pioneer Elite SX-31 receiver. Not much info out there on Google. It was more popular in Europe as the SX-777. Looks like BPC from a distance, but actually sounds pretty good. Made in Japan. 65 wpc, 20-20k, .03% THD. Non-switching type II circuit as used in higher end Pioneer amps of that era. Can handle 2 ohm loads. Construction is your typical stamped steel chassis.
The soundstage is nice, bass is not vintage boomy, it's deep, tight and controlled, treble nice and crisp. I'm pretty impressed. The phone stage sounds as good as my previous marantz PM-7001 and Arcam A-65+

It's cheaper to collect quality black face gear these days. Silverface prices are getting crazy.y Polk 7B's are nirvana

It's crazy how good the Pioneer sounds. Don't miss my Marantz PM7001 at all

I have a old Pioneer PD-M630 player that makes cool mechanical sounds when switching between discs Can't seem to let it go.

They were built good in the 90's from
Japan. Mine has the honeycomb dimples on bottom chassis -
That unit is a tank. I've had one for almost 2 decades and use it all the time. I don't crank it (it's in my den and is not my primary sound system), but it has seen a lot of hours.
The service tech at the audio store where I got it said, in essence, it would never fail. A little hyperbolic of course but he said he'd never had to service one.
And I found this post because I'm trying to find a remote for it, the volume buttons have just about given out. -
I also have a few Pioneer Elite pieces. This one (not Elite) is the only one I bought new (1989) it also has the honeycomb chassis. Still sounds good. I use the single drawer instead of the cartridge. Pioneer PD-M610 w/remote.
