    EDIT -- actually, the video contains a rather unacceptable Anglo-Saxon tetragrammaton (so to speak), so rather than post the link, I'll just suggest the following: go to YT and search for Tesla's cover of the Five Man Electrical Band's big hit "Signs". I quite like their (more or less acoustic) cover version very much. But they do make the lyrics a tad... coarser.

    I always thought Red House was a cover but apparently he just adapted a 12 bar blues standard with his lyrics....

    Yeah, I think Hendrix did the first of the iterations that were then followed by many other artists. Other Hendrix covers were Sunshine of Your Love, Sergeant Peppers, and even Peter Gunn. Shows to go you the stupidity of the suits who ran the major record labels, they left Red House off the US version of Are You Experienced. Kind of like Dylan's label leaving Blind Willie McTell off Infidels. Good thing they finally put it on Smash Hits, which by the way is a GREAT collection, as is The Essential Jimi Hendrix.
